Under the direction of the Head of Public Services, the Public Services Supervisor position assists in all duties that facilitate the functions of the Public Services department. This role will supervises all Resource Desk activities and provides fulfillment-related services to users as needed. This Public Services Supervisor is responsible for various related tasks that enhance and support library user services.
Essential duties:

Manages Resource Desk services and directly supervise student employees in Resource Desk processes. Assumes supervision of library operations and the facility, including assisting patrons and responding to any emergency in the building as needed.

Responsible for supervising and training 15-17 student assistants for user service duties. Collaborates to screen, interview, hire, schedule, train, develop, and evaluate student employees.

Develops and evaluates workflow patterns and collaborates with the Head of Public Services to establish operating standards and guidelines. Develops and maintains a sustainable student training system and manuals utilizing various software and programs.

Collaborates with the Head of Fulfillment Services and the Head of Library Systems and Technical Services to deliver resources effectively and efficiently to patrons.

Works with collection management on library stacks and gift book processing.

Collaborate with department supervisors to reserve study space reservations.

Assists in the management of department records and statistics that are essential to the department.

Manages and maintains overdue/fine records and handles cash and records for all money received.
Qualifications:
Candidates must have:
- Ability to use and teach computer skills

Willingness to learn the library’s policies and procedures

Ability to handle many records and meticulous routines with accuracy and orderliness

Ability to interpret library policies cheerfully, sympathetically, and accurately

Physical stamina to stand for extended periods, push loaded carts, shelve heavy books, and lift up to 25 lbs

Willingness to work a flexible schedule, including some night and weekend hours.

Ability to communicate effectively and work cooperatively with staff and patrons
