The Gift Shop Manager manages the daily operations of the university's gift shop, including both in-store and online retail. This role provides strategic leadership in customer experience, merchandising, sales growth, and staff supervision. The Manager ensures the shop operates efficiently, meets revenue goals, and reflects the mission and brand of the university.

Work Location: Virginia Beach, VA 

Essential duties:

  • Serve as the Manager on Duty (MOD) for the Gift Shop, ensuring smooth daily operations, including opening and closing procedures.
  • Drive sales and profitability through strategic merchandising, promotions, and effective inventory management.
  • Deliver and model exceptional customer service to all guests, ensuring a welcoming and professional environment.
  • Oversee the visual presentation and cleanliness of the shop, maintaining high merchandising standards and brand consistency both in-store and online.
  • Manage online store operations, including product listings, order fulfillment, and customer communication.
  • Maintain inventory accuracy by conducting regular counts and collaborating on ordering processes.
  • Coordinate product purchasing, vendor communication, and budget tracking to ensure cost-effective procurement and profitability.
  • Oversee cash handling procedures and ensure adherence to university financial protocols and accounting practices.
  • Recruit, train, and supervise student worker staff, providing coaching, development, and performance feedback.
  • Develop worker schedules, ensuring adequate coverage during peak hours and special events.
  • Ensure compliance with safety and security standards, as well as university policies.
  • Respond to customer inquiries, concerns, and feedback in a timely and professional manner.
  • Monitor trends in collegiate retail and make recommendations for innovation and improvement.
  • Attend relevant meetings and collaborate with supervisor on strategic goals and initiatives.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree preferred
  • Previous experience in a retail sales environment and knowledge of general retail practices and procedures.
  • Must be available to work evenings and weekends during peak periods or special events

  • Ability to lead, coach, and train others
  • Ability to resolve guest concerns/complaints well
  • A personal relationship with Jesus Christ is critical
  • Must be able to work independently with minimum supervision
  • Attention to detail and able to interact well with others; posses poise, neatness, and spiritual maturity
