About the role

TAFE NSW is looking for individuals with current industry experience and knowledge in either the Sports Turf, Greenkeeping, Horticulture and Landscaping industry to work as a Technical Officer on a permanent basis based at the Ryde Campus.

The Technical Officer is responsible for supporting the delivery of education services through the maintenance of delivery locations and equipment, preparation and distribution of teaching resources and other related support and administrative functions.

About You 

TAFE NSW is looking for individuals with current industry experience and knowledge in the Sports Turf, and Greenkeeping, industry to work as a Technical Officer on a permanent basis based at the Ryde Campus.

The role of a Technical Officer in turf management is multi-layered, requiring a blend of horticultural expertise with attention to detail. At Ryde Campus, the Technical Officer's duties encompass the upkeep of various sports surfaces, including a bowling green, golf greens, fairway and a cricket wicket, ensuring they meet the specific standards for competitive play. This involves using plant and equipment for precision cutting, comprehensive weed and pest management, and disease control, all tailored to the unique needs of each turf type. Additionally, the role demands a proactive approach to irrigation system management, guaranteeing optimal soil moisture levels for healthy turf growth. Essential to this position is diligent record keeping of chemical applications whilst adhering to maintenance schedules.

The Technical Officer role also supports the delivery team where preparation of turf areas is required for teacher directed class activities.  

To be successful in this role you must:

  • Demonstrated technical knowledge and experience in the use of equipment to manage sports turf and lawn areas
  • Demonstrated technical knowledge and experience of use, care and maintenance of tools, equipment, materials and techniques used in sports turf management area applicable to the role
  • Hold a current Chemical application ticket AQF3 level or above
  • Proven ability to create, modify or adapt equipment or other resources to meet requirements
  • Demonstrated organisational skills and ability to work as a member of a team with minimal supervision in area relating to the role.
