Permanent Full-Time Part Year (35 hours per week and 43 weeks per year)

$80,502 – $88,860 salary package - includes base salary ($70,926 - $78,289), plus employer’s contribution to superannuation and annual leave loading (paid pro-rata)

The Construction and Energy faculty is establishing a Technical Assistant Talent Pool to fill temporary and ongoing vacancies across the Illawarra region over the next 18 months.

About the role

Join a dynamic team as a Technical Assistant, where you will play a key role in supporting the effective and efficient delivery of educational programs. In this position, you will be responsible for preparing classes, managing and monitoring supplies, and producing, maintaining, and servicing teaching aids and equipment. Your duties will include maintaining and cleaning workshop areas, preparing workshops for classes, servicing and carrying out routine maintenance and repairs on workshop tools and equipment, and preparing class materials by cutting them to required sizes using appropriate power tools and equipment. You will also maintain, service, and operate signage equipment to ensure it functions effectively, while managing stock levels and coordinating supply orders to ensure resources are readily available for teaching activities.

About You

You hold a relevant trade qualification Cert III in Signs & Graphics and/or demonstrated industry experience with strong hands‑on capability in a workshop environment. You have a passion in painting and decorating with an interest in signage. You have a strong understanding of IT programs used in the signage industry, including Microsoft Office. You bring a solid mechanical understanding and practical experience using tools and machinery, enabling you to confidently support teaching staff and students during training activities.

Highly practical and organised, you thrive in a hands‑on role, taking pride in maintaining a safe, clean and efficient workspace. You have a sound understanding of equipment maintenance and Work Health and Safety requirements, and you apply this knowledge to ensure tools and machinery are well maintained and safe for use. This role suits someone reliable and team‑oriented who enjoys supporting high‑quality vocational training behind the scenes.

Essential Requirements

  • A valid Working with Children Check (required prior to commencement).
  • Trade Qualifications appropriate to the role and trades area and/or relevant industry experience in Painting & Decorating.
  • Demonstrated ability to service, clean, repair and safely operate workshop machinery.
  • Demonstrated application of practical, administration and computer skills to support supply, stores, maintenance, warehouse related duties and record keeping or similar activities.
  • Demonstrated customer service, organisational skills and ability to work as a member of a team with minimal supervision.
  • As required, possession of or willingness to obtain prior to commencement of employment, the following:
    • Drivers Licence
    • First Aid Certificate
    • Forklift Licence
    • Electrical Tag and Test Certificate
