About the role

Joining the Power System team and reporting to the Senior Electrical Engineer - Power Generation, this role covers Kainantu Gold Mine’s Permanent Power Station, Temporary Power Station, Kumian Camps Power Generation, 800L Portal Power Distribution Systems and associated controls, you will be responsible for the Production, Transformation & distribution of Power across the HV Network. This role, under the direction of the Senior Electrical Engineer, will contribute to the design, implementation, and management of power generation and transmission projects for Kainantu Gold Mine.

The Electrical Engineer shall provide engineering leadership to the Generation & Distribution Network and will assist the business to achieve project objectives and deliver on its Asset Management Policy. Additionally, the role supports the Asset Management team to deliver the best outcome for the range of developing and existing energy generation assets.

Key Accountabilities

Key accountabilities of this position include.

  • Ensure all statutory electrical inspections and works are carried out on plant site surface electrical equipment safely and within compliance with relevant laws, regulations and company standards.
  • Maintaining all electrical documentation and records. These include equipment specifications, data sheets, as build drawings, scope of works, change of management, and report writing.
  • Carry out engineering study, estimates, prepare technical drawings, P&IDs, E&I Schematics/SLDs, and specifications of electrical and control systems, procurement, and ensure installation conform to standards, project requirements, and safe operational requirements.
  • Communicates exceptionally within the team and in cross-functional work with other departmental sections and groups.
  • Assist with diagnosing electrical defects or hazards on systems, plant, and equipment, and identify adjustments, repair timely, and drive team to take key learnings.
  • Identify areas of sustainable improvement and drive to improve plant and equipment up time.
  • Assist with budgeting to meet plant and equipment operational requirements. 
  • Perform reliability and maintenance of alarms, safety devices, and emergency electrical systems onsite.
  • Perform, enhance, and support the following functions as an Engineer:
  • Scoping, challenging and technical oversight/support for electrical design and site works associated with Power Generation under the Senior Electrical Engineer’s directions.
  • Maintain key relationships with Equipment Manufacturers, Service Providers and Industry Groups associated with Power Generation Equipment
  • Work within and support the Technical Authority Framework compliance as a Subject Management Expert
  • Review, justify and communicate recommendations for equipment selection, installation, operation and maintenance
  • Work collaboratively across relevant business areas in the development of commercial strategies and modes of operation to deliver design and performance improvements (for example, provision of ancillary services)
  • Reviewing and analysing SCADA data to assess the performance of operating power generating facilities.
  • Contribution to the development, review and ongoing support of asset management strategies and processes to ensure fleet equipment meets their intended design life at the lowest sustainable life-cycle costs
  • Under the guidance of the Senior Electrical Engineer, develop procedures and technical documentation regarding safe, reliable, and efficient operations and maintenance of power Generation equipment
  • Work closely with the asset digital team to develop performance analytics and monitoring strategies including predictive analytics
  • Develop professional relationships and effectively work with personnel across departments in an integrated organisation in performance of duties
  • Ensure health and safety, and environmental performance meets or exceeds company and regulatory requirements.
  • Ensure risk management plans are regularly reviewed and management actions are delivered; an
  • Address risk management as part of all material decisions taken.

About You

To be considered for this role, it is essential that you

  • Degree qualified or equivalent tertiary qualifications in Electrical engineering or related discipline.
  • Electrical engineering experience with low and high voltage equipment (min 5 yrs)
  • Safety focus for people and equipment
  • Critically analyse technical problems, formulate solutions.
  • Capability to provide whole of life thinking to an asset
  • Experience in Asset Management through Asset Management Procedures and Programs
  • Leadership for technical situations with the ability to take Initiative on key technical requirements or safety Implications
  • Power station or construction experience for large generation facilities is desired
  • 5+ years relevant work experience in similar roles in power generation and distribution.
  • Knowledge in the maintenance of HV Equipment, electrical, electronic, and instrumental equipment commonly installed in Power Stations.
  • Experience with CMMS Pronto platforms is well regarded.
  • Computer proficiency in MS Office suite.
  • Sound planning, analytical and critical thinking skills.
  • Initiative-taking with the ability to work under pressure and autonomously.
  • Excellent attention to detail and time management skills to meet deadlines.
  • Strong active listening & interpersonal skills for rapport building, conflict resolution & training.
