About the role

This position plays a key role in fostering and maintaining positive relationships between the company, landowners, local communities, and stakeholders within the Exploration License (EL) areas. This position works closely with the Exploration Team, leading community engagement and consultation to seek consent from the landowners and facilitate agreements so they can gain access for exploration and drilling activities.

Key Accountabilities

This role is focused on strengthening relationships and communication between the company and all key stakeholders, including landowner groups, surrounding communities, and government entities. Part of the responsibilities include:

Lead Community Affairs for Exploration: Manage daily operations and team performance to support exploration schedules, ensuring activities are delivered on time and within budget.
Stakeholder & Landowner Engagement:
Act as the key liaison with impact landowners, local communities, and government agencies across Exploration License areas.
Grievance & Risk Management:
Resolve community issues, monitor emerging threats, and advise security and exploration teams to maintain operational stability.
Cultural & Social Inclusion:
Promote cultural awareness and support engagement with youth, women, and vulnerable groups in exploration-affected communities.
Compensation & Compliance Oversight:
Coordinate compensation for exploration activities and ensure alignment with legal, policy, and human rights standards.
Cross-Functional Collaboration:
Work closely with Community Affairs, Exploration, and Government stakeholders to deliver integrated engagement outcomes.

About You

To be considered for this position, candidates must have substantial experience in a similar role, preferably within Papua New Guinea or in a culturally diverse setting. In addition to this, candidates should also be able to demonstrate and have some or all of the following:

  • Tertiary qualifications in Land Management, Surveying, Law, Social Sciences, or related field.
  • Sound experience in land access, tenure management, or community relations within mining, oil & gas, or infrastructure projects.
  • Proven track record in negotiating land agreements and managing customary landowner relationships in PNG or similar contexts.
  • Proficient in GIS-based mapping tools and land information systems.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications, particularly MS Word and Excel and strong reporting skills
  • PNG Driver’s license Class 6 is essential given the need for the driving is critical in this role 
  • Proficient in English and Tok Pisin (Pidgin), both spoken and written.
