About the role

This position leads the Business Development Section within the Community Affairs Department, providing strategic and operational support on landowner business development. The role works closely with Finance and Contracts teams to facilitate fair and transparent contract opportunities for landowner umbrella companies, while also supporting broader local enterprise growth through training and mentoring.

Key Accountabilities

This role will provide strategic advice and operational support to the K92 Management Team on all matters relating to landowner business development and participation. Part of the responsibilities include:

Lead Business Development Operations: Manage the Business Development (Community Affairs) Section, oversee daily functions, and ensure alignment with company policies and delegated authority.
Strategic Planning & Advisory:
Provide input into departmental goals, develop strategies, and support the implementation of MOA-aligned business development initiatives.
Landowner Engagement & Project Support:
Negotiate and collaborate with Landowner Umbrella Companies to identify and implement viable economic projects.
Governance & Capacity Building:
Promote strong financial management and control systems within landowner businesses to support sustainable development.
Office Oversight & Budget Management:
Supervise the Kainantu-based Business Development Office and monitor performance, budgets, and financial targets.
Team Leadership & Development: Lead, coach, and evaluate team performance while ensuring Development & Localization targets are met.
Compliance & Values Commitment:
Uphold workplace safety, security, human rights, and anti-fraud standards, and remain flexible to meet operational needs.

 

 

About You

To be considered for this position, candidates must have substantial experience working with resource project landowners in Papua New Guinea. In addition to this, candidates should also be able to demonstrate and have some or all of the following:

  • Tertiary qualifications in Business, Commerce, Supply Chain or a related discipline.
  • Substantial experience in procurement, business development, or supply chain management, preferably in mining or resource sectors.
  • Strong commercial acumen and understanding of PNG’s SME landscape.
  • Sound knowledge of business development frameworks and legislation, including the PNG Companies Act (1997).
  • PNG Driver’s license Class 6 is essential
  • Strong financial and business management skills, with experience in budgeting, cost control, and operational improvement.
  • High-level communication skills in English and Tok Pisin, with the ability to engage rural and village-based communities.
