The Opportunity

Join our team currently working on an exciting Australian Research Council Discovery project involving the development of models and tools to support the design of Human-AI Teams (HATs). As a Research Fellow on the project you’ll play a key role in developing and validating a new model of teamwork for HATs, impacting sectors such as defence, transport, healthcare, sport, and disaster response.

You will:

  • Conduct innovative research: take the lead in designing and conducting innovative research projects aligned with your expertise and UniSC’s research priorities. Employ rigorous methodologies and stay up to date with the latest advancements in the field.
  • Publish research findings: disseminate research findings through high-impact publications in reputable journals, conferences, and other scholarly outlets. Contribute to UniSC’s reputation as a leader in cutting-edge research.
  • Collaborate with research team: engage in collaborative research efforts with other members of the research team, fostering a supportive and productive research environment. Contribute your expertise and knowledge to interdisciplinary projects.
  • Secure research funding: actively participate in securing research grants and funding opportunities to support your research projects. Demonstrate the potential impact of your research to attract external funding.
  • Contribute to research impact: communicate and present research outcomes to various stakeholders, including academic peers, policymakers, and the public. Demonstrate how your research contributes to addressing real-world challenges and has a broader societal impact.

About you:

You're a collaborative team player with experience working across multidisciplinary environments, and you bring a positive, collegial approach to every interaction. Confident in managing large datasets, you combine technical skill with strong interpersonal qualities, contributing to an inclusive academic culture that fosters engagement, achievement, and success for both staff and students.

You will possess:

  • Completion (or in the final stages of submission) of a doctoral qualification in HFE, psychology, safety science, social sciences or a related field relevant to HFE;
  • Demonstrated experience in applying Human Factors methods to analyse team and system performance, such as the Event Analysis of Systemic Teamwork (EAST), Social Network Analysis (SNA), or other teamwork assessment and systems analysis methods;
  • Experience in designing, conducting, and writing up research studies;
  • Demonstrated experience of conducting quantitative and qualitative analyses using software tools such as SPSS and NVIVO;
  • Knowledge and experience of contemporary theories, concepts and research methodologies relevant to understanding teamwork and human interactions with advanced emerging technologies;
  • Evidence of a developing publication record; and
  • Project management and stakeholder management skills, including a record of success in recruiting participants for research projects.

Desirable

  • Demonstrated experience in the use of computational modelling methods such as System Dynamics and Agent-Based Modelling (ABM) to model and simulate system and agent behaviour.
