The Opportunity

The casual Senior Management Accountant will provide short‑term senior financial and analytical support, reporting, and business process documentation. The role is hands‑on and delivery‑focused, supporting the Finance Manager with delivery of key financial activities.

Areas of focus

  • Month-End Close Process Documentation
    • Establish clear, repeatable steps that make the month-end close smoother for all stakeholders involved.
  • Finance Business Partner Process Documentation
    • Build and document the processes required of a Finance Business Partner, including clear repeatable work instructions.
  • Budget and Reforecast Guidelines
    • Document budget and reforecast guidelines, including timetables and requirements.
  • Monthly Management Reporting
    • Strengthen monthly management reporting and deliver reliable insights that help leaders make sound decisions.
  • Change Management
    • Develop a plan for managing changes arising from the implementation of new or revised finance processes, work instructions, guidelines, and reporting practices.
  • Research and Special Purpose Account Management
    • To review and improve the way Research and Special Purpose accounts are tracked, reported, and managed, particularly in relation to project spend.

About you

Our ideal candidate is someone who can:

  • take structured, detail‑driven approach to designing and embedding financial processes, ensuring consistency, clarity and accountability.
  • demonstrate strong analytical and reporting capability, producing accurate, timely outputs across budgeting, forecasting and management reporting.
  • uphold high standards of financial integrity, with the ability to verify data quality, apply relevant accounting principles, and confidently reconcile complex project accounts.
  • collaborate effectively with finance stakeholders, communicating clearly and proactively to support key financial activities and outcomes.

You will possess:

  • Bachelor Degree in Accounting, Business or Commerce.
  • Extensive experience across computerised financial and accounting administration in a medium to large organisation.
  • High-level computing skills, including the use of sophisticated financial systems
  • Strong knowledge of financial operations, systems and funding environments, ideally within higher education.
  • CPA or CA qualifications or in the process of gaining these qualifications are highly desirable.
