Risk Management Coordinator performs responsible work managing safety and health programs while ensuring compliance with federal, state, and County occupational health and safety regulations for James City County (JCC); investigates and studies risks to which JCC, and the Williamsburg James City County (WJCC) Schools may be exposed and determines potential sources of loss and methods of avoiding or mitigating their effects while working with departments to ensure proper controls are in place. Performs responsible work in investigating personal injury, property loss, damage, and related claims against JCC, and WJCC Schools.

Responsibilities:

• Develops, implements, reviews, monitors, and evaluates JCC safety programs and procedures to ensure adherence to the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) regulations.
• Interprets state and federal OSHA regulations; stays informed of new or updated safety regulations; ensures compliance.
• Reviews accident reports to include Worker’s Compensation, Property damage and Liability injuries and recommends corrective action; follows up to ensure corrective action taken; may recommend settlements for claims.
• Compiles information for subrogation or litigation and manages Worker’s Compensation, casualty, and property loss claims, ensuring compliance with statutes, rules or procedure and state laws.
• Serves as an interface between employees, supervisors, attorneys, Human Resources, insurance carriers and care providers and works to resolve workers compensation claims issues or other claims issues.
• Conducts on-site safety investigations; interviews witnesses; reviews documentation and reports.
• Maintains and prepares records and reports related to occupational safety and claims activities; coordinates departmental safety records for JCC and WJCC; compiles and communicates risk management metrics and other safety-related information to departments. Reviews and maintains OSHA 300 logs and related records for accuracy and completeness.
• Assists with developing and delivering risk management trainings and other risk management communications as needed.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in occupational health and safety or related field; minimum of two years of experience in occupational health and safety, risk management, and/or insurance claim management; experience with industrial hygiene testing methods and equipment preferred.
• Must possess or be able to obtain within 30 days of hire, a valid Virginia driver’s license and have an acceptable driving record based on James City County’s criteria.
• Knowledge of occupational safety principles and practices; insurance and claim management principles and practices; industrial hygiene principles and practices (preferred, not required); state and federal safety standards and regulations; and principles and processes for providing customer service including setting and meeting quality standards for services, and evaluation of customer satisfaction.
• Skill in the use of computer software, including Microsoft Office Suite; data analysis and dashboard development; preparation of reports and presentation materials; and development and delivery of presentations to diverse audiences.
• Ability to design and implement online safety training; provide responsive and professional customer service; collaborate effectively and establish and maintain positive working relationships with employees, departments, vendors, and other stakeholders; communicate with tact, diplomacy, and understanding when addressing sensitive or complex matters; make sound decisions and recommendations in accordance with established policies and procedures; communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
