This is an adjunct (part-time) position. Compensation will be pro-rated according to the amount of workload assigned. Spokane Colleges reserves the right to cancel this recruitment without notice. Spokane Falls Community College (SFCC) is a beautiful campus located in the inland Pacific Northwest, on the ancestral home of the Spokane Tribe, near the Spokane River. Our campus is not far from the urban center of Spokane, a mid-sized city with a high quality of life and quick access to the outdoors.
SFCC is one of two accredited community colleges that comprise the Spokane Colleges. CHARACTERISTIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Prepare for and instruct classes in English in face-to-face, hybrid, and online classroom modalities based on the needs of the department.
- Provide availability and accessibility to students through a combination of scheduled office hours, e-mail accessibility and other effective means of responsive and timely communication.
- Communicate expectations and establish clear grading criteria through appropriate instructional means, to include but not limited to developing course syllabi, handouts, and materials supporting the instructional process; evaluate student progress and provide clear, timely feedback and support to students.
- May participate in department and general faculty meetings.
- Comply with state and federal law applicable to professional duties and responsibilities; follow established procedures in areas such as printing, turning in grades, retaining records for grades, bookstore orders, student safety and health issues and related administrative processes.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- An earned Master's degree in English or related field from an accredited institution.
- Ability to teach in person and/or hybrid.
- Prior teaching experience in English.
- Communicating effectively in oral and written English in a classroom and with other professionals.
- Working/interacting effectively with colleagues, staff, students, administrators and others of various cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds.
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Experience equivalent to two years of full-time post-secondary teaching experience (graduate students are encouraged to apply but must have degree when SFCC school year starts).
- Community college teaching experience.
- Demonstrated commitment to student success in classes comprised of students with a wide range of abilities.
- The successful candidate will be a well-qualified generalist in English or related subject.
Person hired must be able to provide acceptable documentation of U.S. Citizenship or lawful authorization to work in the United States. This is an absolute condition of employment. Benefits Information
Adjunct faculty must work two (2) consecutive quarters at 50% or more of full-time academic load in order to qualify for benefits (based on instructional hours only). Once determined to be eligible, benefits begin on the first day of the month following the beginning of the quarter. Medical, dental, life and long term disability insurance benefits are provided as currently administered under Public Employees Benefits Board; TIAA-Cref retirement plan or WA State Retirement Plan; leave accruals and usage are governed by the faculty master contract.
