Starting salary for this position is: $40.83 - $86.87 per hour based on workload category.
This is an adjunct (part-time) position. Compensation will be pro-rated according to the amount of workload assigned. Spokane Colleges reserves the right to cancel this recruitment without notice. About the Communications Studies Instructor - Adjunct - Spokane Community College
CHARACTERISTIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Instruct in-person and hybrid college-level courses in the Communication Studies Discipline, which may include Introduction to Communication, Interpersonal Communication, and Public Speaking;
- Develop course content that is engaging, relevant, and accessible to a diverse student population;
- Foster an inclusive classroom that encourages student success;
- Communicate expectations and clear grading criteria and evaluate student progress and provide clear, timely feedback;
- Provide students with appropriate and timely academic support;
- Maintain professional standards in interactions with the college community;
- Complies with district policies, procedures and directives, state and federal regulations, orders and statute and collective bargaining agreements.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Master's degree in Communication Studies or Speech Communication from an accredited institution with emphasis or study in the teaching areas outlined above.
- Experience equivalent to teaching one course per quarter/semester for a full academic year at the college level.
- Evidence of teaching competence. Acceptable forms of documentation may include student, peer, and/or supervisory evaluations.
- Proficiency in classroom instructional technology and learning management system technology.
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Additional experience in teaching a variety of teaching modalities, specifically fully asynchronous online and hybrid/blended classes.
- Prior community college teaching experience.

Benefits Information
Adjunct faculty must work two (2) consecutive quarters at 50% or more of full-time academic load in order to qualify for benefits (based on instructional hours only). Once determined to be eligible, benefits begin on the first day of the month following the beginning of the quarter. Medical, dental, life and long term disability insurance benefits are provided as currently administered under Public Employees Benefits Board; TIAA-Cref retirement plan or WA State Retirement Plan; leave accruals and usage are governed by the faculty master contract.
