Job Description
The counselor works within a dynamic environment, serving students and educating them in ways to develop themselves personally, educationally, and vocationally, as well as to enhance their overall mental and emotional well-being. This position will provide counseling, crisis intervention, and overall clinical outreach/educational services to the campus community. Responsibilities include intake, assessment, time-limited individual counseling, group counseling, outreach, consultation, and crisis intervention in the areas of mental health and well-being. Assist with the planning and promotion of well-being initiatives.

Required Qualifications
Education/experience: Advanced degree in counseling, psychology, clinical social work or related field from a Council for Accreditation of Counseling and Related Educational Programs (CACREP) accredited program, a program accredited by the APA Commission on Accreditation, or a program accredited by the Council on Social Work Education. Licensed in a mental health related discipline in the Commonwealth of Virginia or the ability to become licensed in the Commonwealth of Virginia. Experience in brief intervention, mental health crisis assessment and group therapy.
Licensure and certification required: Licensed or the ability to become licensed as a professional counselor, social worker, or psychologist in the Commonwealth of Virginia.
Demonstrated experience in brief intervention, mental health crisis assessment, and group therapy. Working knowledge of counseling theory and techniques. Knowledge of electronic health records systems. Ability to appropriately assess and intervene in crisis situations. Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with colleagues. Ability to treat all people equitably and with a sensitivity to and awareness of cultural differences. Considerable knowledge of professional ethics and the ability to apply to current work. Strong interpersonal and communication skills. Demonstrated understanding of the developmental issues of college students. Must be flexible and possess the ability to successfully handle multiple tasks/projects simultaneously and work well under pressure, independently, and in a team-oriented environment.

Preferred Qualifications:
Prior professional clinical experience working in a college/university counseling or community setting. Demonstrated ability to provide outreach, prevention, consultation, and seminar presentations.
