Position Available: Senior Legal Counsel
Location: Melbourne, Perth or Brisbane
About the Role:
Reporting to the Chief Customer Officer, this integral position will be responsible for building and mentoring a high performing legal team at Centurion.
The Senior Legal Counsel is responsible for delivering the work and operating as the legal subject matter expert for the entirety of Centurion including the CFC Group.
The successful candidate will provide high-quality legal advice to the business nationally, have front-line engagement with relevant internal and external stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities:
- The role's primary focus is on legal and business issues pertaining to customer contracts and required legal work associated with insurance claims.
- Partnering with internal stakeholders to provide prompt, financially sensible legal counsel.
- Draft legal documents to optimise commercial outcomes for the business.
- Provide immediate legal support to the business in relation to significant safety incidents (note that this will require occasional after-hours support).
- Face to face negotiation of legal matters with customers and other external parties, including regulatory bodies.
- Manage dispute resolution / negotiations and providing recommendations for resolution and settlement.
- Conduct regular training for the business on legal and governance matters.
- Monitor changes in legislation and provide appropriate advice to the wider business.
- Complete weekly and monthly reporting on legal matters to Executive and the Board.
- When required, present on legal matters and advice to the Executive.
- Provide supervision of junior team member/s in line with relevant professional conduct rules.
- Manage external lawyers and legal budget to ensure cost effective and practicable assistance received.
- Regional/Interstate travel as required.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
- A Bachelor of Laws Degree (LLB) and current practicing certificate (essential).
- 6+ years’ post admission experience (essential).
- Excellent front-end drafting skills (essential).
- Experience working in both top tier law firms and in-house environments (desirable).
- Experience supporting transport or logistics industries (desirable).
- Broad legal knowledge across multiple practice areas and including dispute resolution (desirable).
