The Division of Pediatric Endocrinology and Metabolism at the Children's Hospital of Richmond (CHoR) at Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU) invites applications and nominations for the position of Division Chief of Pediatric Endocrinology. This is an exceptional opportunity for an accomplished academic pediatric endocrinologist to lead a nationally-recognized division with distinguished clinical, educational, and research programs.

The Division of Pediatric Endocrinology is home to the Center for Endocrinology, Diabetes and Metabolism, the region's most comprehensive program for children with diabetes and endocrine disorders, and the Healthy Lifestyles Center, a leading pediatric obesity treatment and research program. The Division offers state-of-the-art, multidisciplinary care encompassing advanced diagnostics, medical nutrition therapy, psychological support, patient and family education, support groups, and participation in clinical trials.

The Division's faculty maintain broad clinical and academic interests across pediatric endocrinology and obesity medicine. Its robust research portfolio includes both extramurally-funded investigations and industry-sponsored clinical trials, positioning the Division as a leader in advancing research related to diabetes, obesity, and endocrine disorders.

The successful candidate will be a nationally-recognized pediatric endocrinologist with a strong record of clinical excellence, scholarly achievement, mentorship, and leadership. Candidates must be board-certified in Pediatric Endocrinology and eligible for appointment at the rank of Associate Professor or Professor within the VCU School of Medicine.

Chief Purpose of this Position in Support of Above Mission or Goal:

Pediatric Endocrinology plays a vital role in the Department of Pediatrics' educational mission through the training of medical students, residents, fellows, and interprofessional healthcare learners. The Division is home to accredited fellowship programs in both Pediatric Endocrinology and Obesity Medicine and is committed to fostering the next generation of clinician-scientists and academic leaders.

Position Overview:

The Division Chief is appointed by and reports directly to the Chair of the Department of Pediatrics and collaborates closely with departmental and hospital leadership across CHoR and VCU Health.

As administrative leader of the Division, the Chief will provide strategic vision and oversight for all aspects of the Division's clinical, academic, educational, and research missions. The successful candidate will foster a culture of excellence, innovation, collaboration, and accountability while advancing the Division's national reputation.

The Division Chief will:

• Lead strategic planning and growth initiatives for the Division.
• Maintain an active clinical practice in pediatric endocrinology.
• Advance quality improvement and patient safety initiatives.
• Mentor faculty and support professional development and career advancement.
• Strengthen and expand the Division's educational programs.
• Foster a collaborative and inclusive environment.
• Promote scholarly activity and research excellence.
• Serve as a key partner in departmental and health system leadership efforts.

Major Responsibilities:

Clinical Leadership

• Provide direct patient care as a Pediatric Endocrinologist across CHoR clinical settings.
• Oversee clinical operations for inpatient and outpatient pediatric endocrinology services.
• Ensure the delivery of evidence-based, high-quality, family-centered care.
• Participate in after-hours, weekend, and call coverage as appropriate.
• Lead quality improvement, clinical effectiveness, and operational initiatives within the Division.

Academic and Educational Leadership

• Provide teaching and mentorship to medical students, residents, chief residents, fellows, and advanced practice providers.
• Support the Division's fellowship training programs in Pediatric Endocrinology and Obesity Medicine.
• Collaborate with departmental educational leaders to align training programs with LCME, ACGME, and institutional standards.
• Promote scholarly activity among trainees and faculty.

Research Leadership

• Maintain an active and nationally-recognized research program.
• Establish and promote a strategic vision for research growth within the Division.
• Support investigators pursuing basic, translational, clinical, and population health research.
• Expand opportunities for collaborative and externally funded research initiatives.
• Enhance the Division's national visibility through scientific presentations, publications, and leadership activities.

Service and Professional Contributions

• Represent the Division within departmental, hospital, and health system committees.
• Participate in national professional organizations, peer review activities, and scientific meetings.
• Promote collaborative partnerships throughout CHoR, VCU Health, and the broader healthcare community.
• Advance outreach efforts and strengthen relationships with pediatric providers throughout Virginia.

Administrative Leadership

The Division Chief will provide oversight and strategic direction for Division operations and will:

• Participate in Department of Pediatrics Division Chiefs' meetings and leadership initiatives.
• Collaborate with program leaders, nursing leadership, and ambulatory services to optimize care delivery.
• Partner with CHoR and VCU Health leadership to align pediatric endocrine services with organizational priorities.
• Coordinate educational programs with departmental and institutional leaders.
• Ensure responsible stewardship of departmental resources and support sustainable growth.

Minimum Qualifications:

Candidates must possess:

• Board certification in Pediatrics.
• Board certification in Pediatric Endocrinology.
• Eligibility for unrestricted medical licensure in Virginia.
• Active DEA registration or eligibility to obtain.
• Demonstrated clinical excellence in pediatric endocrinology.
• Leadership experience in an academic, clinical, or programmatic setting.
• National recognition within pediatric endocrinology.
• Eligibility for appointment at the rank of Associate Professor or Professor.
• Demonstrated ability to work in and foster an environment of respect, professionalism, and civility with a population of faculty, staff, and students from all backgrounds and experiences, or a commitment to do so as a faculty member at VCU.

Preferred Qualifications:

Preference will be given to candidates with:

• Experience leading quality improvement initiatives.
• Formal leadership training or completion of a healthcare leadership development program.
• Established research expertise in pediatric endocrinology, diabetes, obesity medicine, or related disciplines.
• A successful history of obtaining extramural research funding.
• Experience building multidisciplinary clinical and research programs.

Salary Range: Commensurate
