Job Purpose:
The English Language Center at Gonzaga University’s Center for Global Engagement in Spokane, Washington, invites applications for qualified, experienced, and dynamic professionals to join our part-time faculty pool for teaching positions in the English Language Center (ELC) that become available during the calendar year.
The ELC offers non-credit (IEP) and credit-bearing (Pathways) language courses that focus on university-level reading, writing, speaking, and listening with the goal of preparing students for success in their undergraduate and graduate degree programs. Students in IEP courses attend 18-20 hours per week, 15 weeks per semester. Pathways courses follow the semester calendar of the University.
Successful candidates will teach academic English using a communicative approach and:
• possess superior language instructional skills to meet the needs and expectations of multilingual students seeking high quality academic English language preparation for college; • have experience teaching English language courses in a college or university setting; • are proficient in using technology in instruction and demonstrate a strong commitment to professionalism and the TESOL field.

Essential Functions:
- Teach from one to two classes in the IEP or Pathways program, according to established ELC course outcomes, curriculum, and benchmarks.
- Generate lesson plans, learning assessments, mid-term progress and final grade reports, and other required documents within the guidelines of the ELC program.
- Review student work, provide feedback, and return assignments in a timely manner.
- Maintain accurate student attendance records.
- Maintain Canvas site for course materials, syllabus, and grades.
- Conference as needed with individual students outside of class.
- Meet with students needing academic or personal assistance, and where appropriate refer these students to their academic advisors.
- Post and hold a minimum of 1 office hour per week for every 3 contact hours of coursework, during times when students are not in class.
- Work collaboratively with other ELC faculty.
- Keep up to date with program and college communications and announcements.
- Attend pre-session coordination, level coordination meetings, and faculty meetings as scheduled.

Minimum Qualifications:
**NOTE: All degrees listed below must have been granted by an approved accredited college or university.
• M.A., M.Ed., or M.A.T. in English as a Second Language (ESL), Teaching English as a Second Language (TESL), or Teaching to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) OR M.A. in Applied English Linguistics, M.A. in Second Language Acquisition (SLA) or a related field • Two years equivalent experience teaching intensive English or English for academic purposes to multilingual adult learners • Professional experience teaching English to speakers of other languages • Experience with testing, assessment, and evaluation of student learning • Experience with the use of computers and technology in teaching ESL • Exceptionally strong time management and organizational skills • Experience with curriculum design and online course development, preferably using an LMS system such as Canvas or Blackboard • Advanced proficiency in both spoken and written English • Eligible to work in the United States • Occasionally, applications from candidates with prior teaching experience who have finished substantial coursework towards an MA in TESOL and have completed a teaching practicum will be considered. Preferred Qualifications:
• Experience teaching intensive English or English for academic purposes to multilingual adult learners equivalent to at least 3 years (9 quarters); • Experience helping multilingual learners develop critical writing skills, including idea development, thesis construction, organization, clarity, grammar, and citation formatting (such as APA, MLA, and Chicago styles). • Experience teaching first-year university composition courses • Experience learning a second language.
