About the Van De Weghe Lab: The laboratory conducts NIH-funded research focused on understanding how the cellular organelles, cilia, work normally and what goes wrong in disease. We employ both human cell systems and the green algae, Chlamydomonas, to probe the function of ciliary proteins. We use microscopy, genome engineering, biochemical isolation of cilia, functional assays, and molecular biology approaches. We’re a new group committed to fostering diversity in the fields of cellular biology and genetics. We’re looking for an enthusiastic addition to our growing group. You will prepare solutions, stock reagents, make aliquots, maintain workstations, clean equipment, organize samples, perform simple experiments and other responsibilities. After training, you will work independently and may lead a project aligned with the lab’s mission.
Responsibilities will include performing basic molecular biology techniques such as nucleic acid isolation, PCR, qPCR, and western blotting, as well as maintaining human cell and Chlamydomonas (algae) cultures using sterile techniques. The position also entails utilizing CRISPR/Cas9 genome engineering to model disease variants, conducting microscopy analysis via immunofluorescence and live cell tracking, and ensuring the accurate documentation and presentation of research results for lab meetings and publications. Additionally, the individual will oversee daily lab operations, including ordering supplies, maintaining an organized environment, and ensuring strict compliance with federal and state safety regulations regarding hazardous materials and wet chemicals. |
