Work that matters 

This project seeks to develop next-generation biological foundation models that leverage large-scale, multimodal datasets, including protein sequences and structures, small molecules, and omics data, to generate powerful and generalisable biological insights. Positioned at the intersection of artificial intelligence, computational biology and drug discovery, the research will address key challenges in cancer therapeutics, including target identification, biomarker discovery, drug response prediction and the design of novel treatments.

The Postdoctoral Research Fellow will contribute to the development and application of these advanced computational approaches, collaborating with leading researchers to translate scientific advances into meaningful outcomes for cancer patients and the broader community.

The team 

Reporting to the Chief Investigator within the South Australian ImmunoGeNomics Cancer Institute (SAiGENCI) and the College of Health, the Postdoctoral Research Fellow will contribute to a leading multidisciplinary research program focused on advancing data-driven approaches for cancer discovery and therapeutic innovation. The role will support the University's research excellence while helping translate scientific advances into improved health outcomes.

Experience 

To join our community and thrive in this role, you will likely have the following skills and experience: 

  • A record of quality research in relevant fields, as evidenced by publications in leading journals and at conferences commensurate with opportunity
  • Experience in machine learning and deep learning
  • Demonstrated experience with one or more high-level programming languages, e.g., Python, Java, R
  • Ability to perform independent research and a commitment to interdisciplinary research
  • Demonstrated capacity to communicate research concepts to technical and non-technical audiences
  • Excellent ability in analysing data, problem-solving and maintaining accurate research records
  • Capability for innovative research, as evidenced by scholarly publication record
  • Clear record of driving to success all aspects of their own research, including experimental design, execution and writing of manuscripts.
  • Excellent organisational, interpersonal, and communication skills (both verbal and written)

It would be considered an asset if candidates also have:

  • Experience in bioinformatics and related software development.
  • Proven collaboration with researchers from diverse disciplines.
  • Previous experience in supervising students and/or research assistants.
  • Ability to present information clearly to various audiences.
  • Experience in fostering local and international collaborations to enhance research outcomes.
  • Participation in research-related meetings and conferences.
