This role is responsible for supporting the Line 1 Business Area stakeholders to deliver on Suncorp New Zealand’s Enterprise Risk Management Framework, through the provision of expert and experienced first line of defence risk and compliance advice and support for Vero Insurance and Asteron Life.
The Risk Manager leads the provision of technical and strategic support, advice and coaching to Executive, Business and First Line Leaders and their teams to ensure risk management practices are mature, aligned to framework and risk is well managed within appetite.
What you’ll do:
- Provide advice and guidance to the New Zealand Business, Consumer and Life businesses in all matters pertaining to risk management requirements to support set frameworks and standards.
- Partner with the business as a trusted advisor and advocate for an increasingly robust risk maturity and culture.
- Coach the business to mature risk management capabilities for strong and effective first line for defence risk and compliance practices.
- Influence decision making in support of a stronger, more robust, and sustainable risk environment through appropriate challenge and review, strengthening controls and deep dive analysis.
- Oversee outputs of assurance activity and provide feedback to ensure quality of control documentation.
- Support the business with Line 3 Audit activity.
What you’ll bring:
- 10+ years’ experience in legal, risk or compliance management in the financial services sector essential.
- Practical and theoretical knowledge of insurance risk management and control processes and tools from working in the financial services or insurance industry.
- Demonstrated experience in a leadership role with the ability to effectively influence.
- Commitment to creating great customer experiences and delivering high quality solutions.
- Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to explain complex technical information to non-subject matter experts.
- Ability to provide sound advice, guidance, oversight, and challenge to relevant stakeholders.
- Strong commercial and financial services acumen.
- Ability to identify opportunities for improvement and implement changes effectively.
