The primary objective of this role is to support the rebuild of accounting logic within Suncorp finance systems, necessitated by the decommissioning of the legacy policy administration system and the transition to a new modern policy administration platform (Duck Creek).  The scope of role includes supporting the design and development of the new accounting logic that aligns with the operations of the new system. This means being endlessly curious, forward looking, able to work through complex challenges and ambiguity, and overall, embracing a commitment to continuously improve.

The Finance Advisory, Policy & Governance (APG) team provides technical accounting advice to the broader Suncorp business, to support decision making that enables improved P&L and capital outcomes, and ensure financial and management reporting compliance and alignment across the Suncorp Group.

What you’ll do

  • Consider the current account mapping and other relevant artifacts produced by the project to date and provide findings for management consideration to align them with approved AASB 17 accounting policies and other relevant policies of Suncorp
  • Coordinate and participate in discussions with Suncorp's Finance & Advice (F&A) Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) and APG management team to understand specific accounting requirements and design accounting logic in line with approved AASB 17 accounting policies and other relevant policies of Suncorp
  • Discuss with Management on the design of accounting logic to Oracle Fusion Accounting Hub (FAH) technology stakeholders
  • Design/specify the proposed new accounting logic that will be built within FAH
  • Assist Management to document the new accounting logic and rationale supporting the decisions taken.
  • Assist with governance and oversight of documentation of the accounting entries mapped for various business scenarios.
  • Support the provision of high-quality technical accounting advice and insights to the Suncorp Group in relation to transition to the new policy administration system.
  • Assist with research of technical accounting topics
  • Assist with governance and oversight of documentation of the accounting entries mapped for various business scenarios.

What you’ll bring

  • Degree in Accounting, Commerce (or similar) - Mandatory
  • CA or CPA qualified - Mandatory
  • 5+ years in financial accounting, reporting, or general ledger reporting or system implementation roles (focus on system implementation – Preferred)
  • Experience in a finance function in a medium to large financial services institution or within systems implementation role at Big4 (Preferred).
  • Experience developing strong relationships based on mutual trust and respect
