DI Data Domain Product Owner

About the role:

Working in the Data Value Stream for Digital Insurer, the successful candidate will be accountable for generating and prioritising squad backlogs to deliver value for Suncorp. AAMI Consumer Insurance will be the major focus (Home, Motor and Strata), working with analytics and reporting teams responsible for monitoring brand and product performance metrics and regulatory reporting

The intent of the Digital Insurer program is to enable the business to deliver new products (including modular products), seamless customer experiences, and support delivery of a simpler, digital business. Radical simplification and significant improvement in the speed & cost of change are a critical measure of success of the program, and this role must ensure this lens is applied to both requirements given to, and deliverables produced by delivery teams.

More specifically, you will:

  • Work with the business SMEs to analyze and understand business requirements, and review/produce technical and business specifications of Data focusing to assigned business area
  • Understand the importance of strategic alignment between business and technology goals, and seeks to achieve this in requirements gathering/squad delivery
  • Act as core decision maker for squad backlog priortisation in Data Value stream and ensure that Missions and Value Outcomes are achieved
  • Uplift the data quality and integrity by ensuring that standards and frameworks for management and collection of data are adhered to including appropriate use of reference data tools
  • Ensure security and access control is considered through development or revision of processes for updating and managing data
  • Prepare materials to ensure effective communication of data requirements and/or to explain future changes to the landscape.
  • Build rapport with business SMEs to ensure cohesion between the program & BAU activities.
  • Work with architects and DET teams to ensure that reference and master data roadmaps are consistently updated in line with changing business needs
  • Drive data decisions aligned to the North Star principles which require radical simplification
  • Understand Suncorp future state data architecture and tooling and drives data transformation, simplification (tooling & Environments) and value for the business
  • Act as a representative for business in terms of future data landscape.
  • Drive the right outcomes and trade-offs between simplification and business regulatory & business value requirements.
  • Understand impacts of pathway, prioritisation and trade-offs across a complex landscape of business and technology data needs.
  • Ensure critical focus on regulatory business requirements, related to data & reporting, are met through the design & decision-making processes of the program.
  • Support Data Stewards and Governance roles in ensuring that data maturity standards are upheld
  • Act as key conduit between the business and Data & Enterprise Technology fostering a strong sense of collaboration.

About You:

  • Relevant tertiary qualification (Business, Commerce, Technology) desirable.
  • Experience collaborating with data & analytics teams with knowledge of Consumer, Commercial or Personal Injury Insurance
  • Experience organising & facilitating engagement sessions with stakeholders
  • Experience working under momentum model or agile ways of working
  • Significant experience contributing to, or preparing business requirements documents
  • Significant experience working amongst technical teams to communicate requirements and support squads through delivery
  • Significant experience supporting technical business analysts to translate business requirements to technical, signing off requirements
  • Experience developing presentation materials to simplify the message of a technical concept
  • Some experience working on data transformation programs
  • Knowledge of ETL technologies and integration from data warehouses to 3rd party Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) technologies - desirable
  • Commercial acumen in use of customer data within marketing – desirable

  • Proficient written and verbal communication skills, including presentation skills
  • Proficient relationship and influencing skills
  • Able to translate and communicate technical concepts to a non-technical audience
  • Strong organisation skills to manage a broad range of responsibilities and priorities
  • Able to form virtual teams & lead projects
  • Basic ability to investigate and analyse data, to draw conclusions from the findings and to recommend solutions or opportunities for improvement.
  • Advanced skills technical document writing to capture business requirements for example Business Requirements Documents or equivalent
  • General understanding of project management methodologies, including ability to use project and information management tools, such as JIRA and Confluence
  • Proficient in understanding data models & their application to business processes
