About the role
As a Senior Data Scientist with focus on AI Red Teaming, you will contribute to the design and delivery of advanced data science and Generative AI initiatives that protect and strengthen Suncorp’s AI systems. Working within the Data Science and AI Centre of Excellence, you will support enterprise teams to identify, test, and mitigate AI risks, while helping shape best practice across the Group. This role blends deep technical problem solving with visible impact on business outcomes.
What you’ll do
- Develop and evolve AI red teaming methodologies that test Generative AI and machine learning systems, ensuring risks are identified, assessed, documented and mitigated before deployment
- Design and deliver complex data science and AI solutions that improve business performance, including customer experience, cost control, and operational efficiency
- Apply first-principles thinking to solve novel and ambiguous problems, translating business needs into robust data science and AI designs
- Partner with senior stakeholders across Technology, Risk, and Business teams to provide clear guidance on AI safety, model behaviour, and system limitations
- Contribute technical thought leadership by sharing emerging industry practices, research insights, and practical guidance with the broader data science community
- Support the continuous improvement of Suncorp’s data science platforms, tools, and processes through informed technical input and collaboration
What you’ll bring
- Practical knowledge of Generative AI, including experience building prototypes, testing model behaviour, and identifying vulnerabilities in frontier models
- Proven ability to design and assess AI systems for reliability, safety, and performance, including implementing guardrails and mitigations
- Strong experience in data science, AI, or machine learning, with deep hands-on capability in Python and the development of scalable ML pipelines
- Experience applying machine learning algorithms and deep learning techniques in real-world, production environments
