About the role

As Underwriting Manager Property, you will lead the day-to-day performance of a state-based Property underwriting team, accountable for portfolio outcomes and the NSW and ACT P&L. You will guide underwriting strategy across complex ISR Property risks, build strong broker relationships, and develop capability within a high-performing team, contributing to sustainable growth in the commercial insurance market.

What you’ll do

  • Lead, coach, and develop a team of at least eight Property underwriters, creating a supportive and high-performing environment aligned to commercial objectives.
  • Take accountability for the NSW and ACT Property portfolio P&L, delivering targeted insurance trading results through disciplined underwriting and portfolio management.
  • Execute and monitor underwriting strategies for ISR Property risks, ensuring alignment to risk appetite and commercial portfolio strategy.
  • Partner closely with Distribution and broker networks to strengthen intermediary relationships and support retention and acquisition outcomes.
  • Analyse portfolio performance, market trends, and data insights to drive continuous improvement in underwriting quality and profitability.
  • Contribute to broader Commercial Insurance initiatives, supporting consistent ways of working and national alignment.

What you’ll bring

  • Extensive leadership experience, with at least 10 years leading underwriting teams within commercial insurance environments.
  • Deep technical expertise in ISR Property underwriting, including writing complex property risks within agreed authorities.
  • Proven experience managing a state or portfolio P&L, with strong commercial acumen and accountability for financial outcomes.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead, coach, and engage teams, supporting capability development and clear performance expectations.
  • Insurance qualifications or equivalent professional experience within the commercial insurance sector.
  • Strong stakeholder management skills, with experience working with brokers and internal partners to achieve shared outcomes.
