Web App Lead – Disaster Management

  • 12‑Month Fixed Term Contract

At Suncorp, we’re committed to building resilient communities when they need us most. We’re currently seeking an experienced Web App Lead to join our Disaster Management function on a 12‑month fixed term contract, based at our Disaster Management Centre in Brisbane.

This is a pivotal role responsible for the technical leadership, delivery and ongoing performance of the Suncorp Control Centre (SCC) Disaster Management Web Application, a critical platform supporting our response during major events.

About the Role

Reporting to the Suncorp Control Centre Manager, the Web App Lead oversees the technical delivery, quality assurance, stability and scalability of the Disaster Management Web Application. You will work closely with internal Technology & Operations teams, the Suncorp Control Centre, and US‑based contractors to ensure the platform remains secure, compliant and aligned with enterprise technology strategy.

This role also leads the operation of a parallel IT solution and is accountable for the successful delivery of new features, continuous improvement initiatives, and the long‑term sustainability of the platform.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the development, enhancement and maintenance of the Disaster Management Web Application.
  • Oversee technical delivery, quality assurance and performance to ensure high availability and reliability.
  • Work closely with Technology & Operations and US‑based contractors to deliver timely, high‑quality feature releases.
  • Ensure compliance with Suncorp IT governance, security and risk frameworks.
  • Implement and embed software engineering best practices, including coding standards, testing and deployment processes.
  • Manage agile delivery practices, including sprint planning, backlog prioritisation and iterative delivery.
  • Lead the operation of a parallel IT solution to support agility and delivery efficiency.
  • Facilitate knowledge transfer to internal Technology & Operations teams through documentation and training.
  • Align Web App development with broader enterprise technology strategy and operational objectives.
  • Drive continuous improvement and optimise system architecture for long‑term sustainability.

About You

You are a technically strong leader with a passion for high‑quality delivery in complex, fast‑paced environments. You bring a collaborative mindset and are comfortable working across geographically dispersed teams.

Key Skills and Criteria:

  • Tertiary qualification in Business, Commerce, Computer Science, IT or a related discipline
  • Scrum Master certification
  • Project Management or Business Analysis certification
  • Background in software engineering, cloud platforms or web application development
  • Proven experience leading web application development and quality assurance.
  • Strong technical leadership with experience working alongside contractors or third‑party vendors, including remote teams.
  • Demonstrated experience in agile delivery methodologies.
  • Solid understanding of software engineering principles, cloud computing, APIs and system architecture.
  • Experience with DevOps practices, CI/CD pipelines and infrastructure automation.
  • Ability to translate business needs into practical technical solutions.
  • Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to explain technical concepts to non‑technical audiences.
  • Analytical, detail‑oriented and focused on continuous improvement and innovation.
