Consumer Insurance Control Testing and FAR (Financial Accountability Regime) Manager

About the role:
The purpose of this role is to support and enable the Consumer Insurance function to manage risk effectively, with a primary focus on effective control design, assurance, and governance.
The role will be responsible for design and execution of the annual control testing program, leading a group of control testers to deliver insightful, constructive feedback, and supporting first line risk and compliance and key business stakeholders to deliver tangible control uplift. The role will function as a control design SME who will challenge and coach their peers and stakeholders to uplift control effectiveness in Consumer Insurance.
This expertise will also be enacted to govern Consumer Insurance’s FAR obligations, with the role responsible for maintaining, and conducting biannual and dynamic review over, the function’s reasonable steps.
This role will develop & advocate the desired “voice of risk” in the business to improve risk capability and maturity throughout the Business.
More specifically, you will:
Consumer Insurance Control Testing Program
- Design of the annual control testing schedule to ensure that controls are tested on time, whilst optimising scheduling for prioritisation, risk insights, and efficiency of the team.
- Manage a team of control testing team members to execute on the testing program to schedule, delivering a high standard of control feedback and consistency in ratings.
- Work closely with stakeholders to ensure the schedule remains dynamic and responds to business and risk needs.
- Proactively provide feedback from the testing program around opportunities for uplift to the First Line Risk and First Line Compliance teams – including with respect to trends, focus areas, and ways of working.
Control Uplift Program Support
- Work closely with the First Line Risk and First Line Compliance teams to set robust standards in control quality and effectiveness, and to provide coaching and insight on control design.
- As a control design SME, provide challenge and feedback on the control testing program to ensure high standards of delivery are maintained. This should include input into design of new or uplifted controls as engaged by stakeholders.
- Provide input and solutioning into the design of the program to deliver seamless alignment with the testing schedule.
FAR Governance
- Design the FAR BAU program of work for Consumer Insurance, including a process for ongoing maintenance of the reasonable steps, embedding expectations with owners of reasonable steps, and how to most effectively leverage controls for FAR governance.
- Lead a team member to execute the annual program, including biannual reviews of reasonable steps, and the ingestion of data sources from across the function to identify when dynamic review is necessary.
- Support the relationship with the CEO Consumer Insurance as the key stakeholder.
People Leadership
- Support the EM Home Risk Partner to lead and develop the capability of the Home Risk Team, including supporting engagement activities
- Recruit, train, develop and manage high performing team members
- Provide coaching, mentoring and professional development opportunities for direct reports in line with career development plans.

About You:
- Relevant degree in Business, Law or related field - Desired
- ISO 31000: Risk Management training – Desired
- Minimum five (5) years appropriate industry experience in general insurance
- Minimum five (5) appropriate industry experience in leadership
- Minimum five (5) years’ experience within risk related business area(s).

- Strong ability to approach business issues from a strategic perspective, and understand the motivations of other parties, to achieve desired outcomes.
