At Suncorp, we’re proud to support our customers when things go wrong. We’re looking for a proactive and technically skilled Claims Officer with strong liability experience to join our Commercial Property Liability team.
In this role, you’ll manage a portfolio of third-party property damage claims, where our customers may have unintentionally caused damage to someone else’s property. We're seeking someone with a solid grasp of liability principles who can assess complex scenarios, interpret policy coverage with confidence, and deliver fair, timely outcomes from lodgement through to finalisation.
What you’ll do
- Manage a portfolio of property liability claims end-to-end, from lodgement through to resolution
- Assess indemnity, interpret policy coverage, and determine legal liability – often in nuanced or ambiguous situations
- Conduct thorough liability investigations and collaborate with internal legal teams where required
- Communicate clearly with brokers, customers, and third-party claimants, managing expectations throughout
- Identify and support vulnerable customers with empathy and care
- Coordinate with internal teams including Assessors, Legal, and Recoveries
- Monitor progress, escalate delays, and contribute to ongoing process improvements
- Balance quality, compliance, and customer experience in every interaction
What you’ll bring
- Proven experience managing liability claims – ideally third-party property damage or related lines
- Strong understanding of liability principles, coverage interpretation, and claims decision-making
- Experience conducting or overseeing liability investigations and working with legal stakeholders
- Skilled in negotiating fair outcomes, including settlement discussions with claimants or legal representatives
- Excellent communication skills – both written and verbal – with a focus on clarity and professionalism
- Critical thinking and sound judgement in complex, high-stakes scenarios
- A proactive, organised and solutions-focused mindset
- Empathy, resilience, and a genuine drive to support customers through challenging situations
- Familiarity with systems like Claims Centre is a bonus
Please note: This role specifically requires recent experience handling liability claims. Applicants without this background may not be suitable for this position.
Work Environment
- Location: Brisbane or Sydney
- Hybrid model: Enjoy a mix of working from home and in our brand-new Brisbane CBD office – minimum of two days in office each week
- Training: Full-time in-office attendance required during your initial training period
- Hours: Standard full-time hours, Monday to Friday
