Consumer Risk Advisor

About the role:

The role of the Risk Advisor is to deliver risk advice, insights and support activities/initiatives enabling the Insurance business to make better business decisions.

  • Work directly with business teams advocating the desired risk culture and improving risk capability and maturity throughout the business
  • Perform activities as required to support the delivery of the program of work to adhere to Group Risk Management Frameworks, Policies and Standards
  • Provide Risk subject matter expertise, advice and delivery support for business initiatives and/or strategy development
  • Analyse the business’ risk performance and share insights to support them in improving the identification and management of risk
  • Identify and work with the business for areas requiring improvement to support an overall uplift of risk maturity
  • Actively collaborate and share learnings & insights broadly across the Risk team to foster a learning culture and uplift capability.

Key Accountabilities:

The purpose of this role is to support the business in the delivery of risk activities that strengthen the Risk capability and culture of Consumer Insurance through the provision of:

  • Risk advice and insights to the business to achieve its operational objectives, including leading the support for the development of risk artefacts such as risk assessments and due diligence requirements for change initiatives and projects
  • Control uplift by supporting stakeholders with the documentation of existing and creation of new controls utilising available data points to enhance overall control effectiveness.
  • Support and upskill stakeholders in incident management practices to drive improvements with incident identification, self-management, resolution of root cause, rectification and remediation activities.
  • Thematic analysis of data to identify areas for business improvement, support the business to prioritise and deliver improvement opportunities
  • Identification of risks and issues within the business to ensure we are providing our customers with a high quality, market leading experience.
  • Design and delivery on proactive solutions to continuously improve risk maturity and culture
  • Relationship management of key stakeholders
  • Pro-actively engage the Business to identify any gaps or challenges the team or their business unit are experiencing, and support action planning to address.
  • Contribute to risk reporting with insights and recommendations as required
  • Contribute to the uplift of risk maturity of key stakeholders
  • Support and execute on the 3 lines of defence model as set out by the Suncorp Board

The scope of this role covers all Consumer, Commercial and Personal Injury products managed by the Consumer Insurance business.

About You:

  • Relevant degree in Business, Law or relevant field - Desired
  • ISO 31000: Risk Management training – Desired
  • Minimum five (5) years, appropriate industry experience in Insurance or Financial Services - Desired
  • Minimum three (3) years, experience within Risk Related business area(s) – Desired

  • Risk Management Practices includes:
    • Core activities: Action Plans, Breach Management, Control Testing and Control Design, Incident Management, Key Risk Indicators, Obligation Management, Risk Obligation & Control Self-Assessment and Quality Assurance.
  • Other activities:
    • Business Continuity Management, Capital Management, Conflict of Interest, Model Integrity, Privacy, Project Risk Management, Stress Testing and Value Chains.

Risk Oversight & Challenge

  • Oversight is ensuring risk practices are embedded and business outcomes align with Suncorp’s Risk Appetite e.g. advise, monitor, review & challenge and verify.

  • Generate insights and recommendations leveraging reporting and analytics.
  • Ensure reporting is appropriate, accurate, complete and timely.
