Our Data Science & AI Centre of Excellence plays a central role in delivering on this ambition by developing high-impact AI solutions and guiding strategic investment in data initiatives across the Group.

We’re looking for a Senior Data Scientist to take on a pivotal technical role in designing and delivering advanced Data Science and AI projects that create significant business value. This is a hands-on technical position with opportunities for informal leadership, including guiding small offshore teams and influencing best practices across the organisation.

You’ll work across the full delivery lifecycle, from prototypes and pilots to scalable, production-grade solutions embedded in core systems. You’ll also help shape Suncorp’s AI ecosystem, contributing to platform development, tooling, and best-practice frameworks.

This role is ideal for someone who combines deep technical expertise with strong business acumen and thrives in a collaborative, innovation-driven environment. You’ll be a recognised thought leader, actively supporting and mentoring the wider data science community within Suncorp.

What you’ll bring

  • Mandatory: Bachelor's degree in a technical field (e.g. Data Science, ML, Statistics, Actuarial, Engineering, Maths)
  • Preferred: Postgraduate degree (Masters or PhD) in a relevant data science/statistical discipline, or equivalent industry experience
  • 7+ years experience in Data Science, AI, or closely related fields
  • Proven experience developing and productionising ML pipelines
  • Strong Python programming skills and experience with ML pipeline optimisation
  • Deep understanding of Machine Learning algorithms and neural networks
  • Experience with Databricks (desirable)
  • Familiarity with Generative AI and experience building prototypes or POCs (mandatory)
