The Role

The Preanalytics Team are the ‘gate keepers’ for samples received into Pathology.  They are responsible for determining if samples and request forms are appropriate for analysis. 

  • Ensure that specimens are handled, stored, prepared and distributed appropriately. Centrifuge specimens where necessary and prepare the required number of accurately labelled aliquots. Ensure that the correct specimen is received in the laboratory for analysis.
  • Assist with the receipt of pathology specimens, including data entry.
  • Prepare specimens for analysis/examination, transport or storage.
  • Referral of samples to offsite laboratories, both domestically and internationally, for testing.
  • Assist in the loading of samples onto analysers and the removal and storage of samples following analysis.

Details of Appointment

Fixed term full time, shift worker (fully rotational) position, working 76 hours per fortnight, commencing from as soon as possible until 18 July 2026

Please note that hours may be negotiated with the successful applicant

Classification: General Stream, Band 3

Salary: $73,811 - $79,779 per annum (pro rata) + 12% superannuation + access to salary packaging

  • Salary range is in accordance with Public Sector Unions Wages Agreement 2022

Eligibility

Successful applicants will be required to meet the essential criteria:

  1. An Associate Diploma from a recognised tertiary institution, or an *equivalent qualification, appropriate to the nature of the work OR relevant training and/or experience determined in accordance with the provisions of Section 37 of the State Service Act 2000

* Knowledge and expertise consistent with qualifications recognised at Certificate III and IV or equivalent level

Registration/licences that are essential requirements of this role must remain current and valid at all times whilst employed in this role and the status of these may be checked at any time during employment. It is the employee’s responsibility to ensure that registration/licences remain current and to advise the Employer if their circumstances change. This includes notifying the Employer if a registration/licence is revoked, cancelled or has its conditions altered.

Under particular circumstances employees may be required to undertake a new conviction check.
