The Role
The Associate Nurse Unit Manager (ANUM) Floor Coordinator is an experienced nurse who, within the defined area of practice:
- Works in partnership with the Nurse Unit Manager (NUM) and other senior staff, to ensure the efficient and effective provision of care based on best practice principles within a collaborative and multidisciplinary framework.
- Assists the NUM with the planning and management of staff and resources and provides operational leadership through the coordination of the day-to-day patient care activities, including patient flow.
The Theatre Floor Coordinator plays a pivotal role in ensuring the seamless and safe delivery of perioperative services across the operating theatre environment. This position provides visible leadership, real-time decision-making, and operational oversight to support high-quality patient outcomes and an efficient surgical workflow.
With a sharp focus on patient safety, resource allocation, and dynamic prioritisation, the Theatre Floor Coordinator effectively manages fluctuating clinical demands, staff deployment, and theatre utilisation throughout the surgical list. This role acts as the central communication point between surgical teams, anaesthetics, recovery, holding bay, CSSD/SSR, and patient flow stakeholders, supporting timely case progression and minimising disruptions to scheduled activity.
Key to success in this role is the ability to think critically under pressure, demonstrate strong situational awareness, and maintain a calm, solutions-focused presence. The Theatre Floor Coordinator fosters a culture of collaboration, respect, and continuous improvement, ensuring staff feel supported and empowered in delivering highly skilled clinical care.
Core responsibilities include:

Coordinating theatre activity in real time to optimise flow, turnaround times, and list completion

Ensuring safe staffing allocation aligned with staff skill mix, patient acuity, and procedural complexity

Leading daily operational briefs and communicating changes effectively across the multidisciplinary team

Escalating issues appropriately, including bed management and emergency case prioritisation

Promoting adherence to ACORN standards and organisational safety initiatives

Supporting clinical coaching, mentoring, and a positive learning environment for all staff

Monitoring compliance with sterile field, infection prevention, and documentation requirements
This position represents both the heartbeat and the traffic controller of the perioperative environment — balancing clinical priorities with compassionate leadership to ensure every patient receives exceptional care, right when they need it.

Details of Appointment
Fixed term full time, shift worker position, working 76 hours per fortnight, commencing as soon as possible for a period of up to twelve (12) months.

Classification: Registered Nurse, Grade 5
Salary $106,570 - $112,440 per annum (pro rata) + 12% superannuation + access to salary packaging
- Salary range is in accordance with Nurses and Midwives (Tasmanian State Service) Agreement 2023
