The Role
- Is a clinical expert in mental health triage of people over the age 65, including dementiaand acts as a clinical resource for nursing, medical and allied health staff in the management of consumers with complex mental health needs and dementia, working with other members of the multidisciplinary team to deliver comprehensive care within the designated area of practice.
- Undertake a specialist triage function for assigned referrals to and contacts with the OPMHS by assessing the nature of the referral or contact, gathering collateral information as required and determining an appropriate and safe response pathway either within the Older Persons Mental Health Streams or another Statewide Mental Health Service (SMHS) stream or beyond the service
- Ensure all contacts and referrals are prioritised in accordance with assessed individual need and presenting risk and work closely with the appropriate care stream to facilitate a response within the required timeframe.
- Work in collaboration with a broad range of internal and external stakeholders to develop the overall triage function and optimise the entry points to the service across all streams and deliver improved outcomes and experiences for individuals presenting with mental health concerns and their families/carers.

Details of Appointment
Fixed term, part time, day worker position, working 38 hours per fortnight, commencing from as soon as possible until 30 June 2026
Please note that hours may be negotiated with the successful applicant
Classification: Registered Nurse, Grade 5
Salary $106,570 - $112,440 per annum (pro rata) + 12% superannuation + access to salary packaging
- Salary range is in accordance with Nurses and Midwives (Tasmanian State Service) Agreement 2023

Eligibility
Successful applicants will be required to meet the essential criteria:
- Registered with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia as a Registered Nurse and possess specialist tertiary graduate or post graduate mental health/psychiatric nursing qualification; or completed, prior to the transfer of nurse education to the tertiary sector, an accredited hospital based program that led to registration as a psychiatric nurse by the relevant nurse regulatory authority within Australia, New Zealand, Canada or the United Kingdom
- Current Driver’s Licence
Applicants should note the following criteria are desirable:
- Extensive, relevant psychiatric nursing experience and/or is credentialed as a Mental Health Nurse by the Australian and New Zealand College of Mental Health Nurses Inc. or equivalent
- Holds, or is working towards, relevant tertiary qualifications
Under particular circumstances employees may be required to undertake a new conviction check.
