The Tasmanian Health Service (THS) is seeking Expressions of Interest (EOI) from current employees who meet the Tasmanian Nurses and Midwives Award advancement requirements for Transition to Practice Registered Nurse (RN) positions commencing in July and August 2026.

This Expression of Interest is strictly limited to employees who are engaged under, and eligible for advancement in accordance with, the Tasmanian Nurses and Midwives Award.

Applicants not covered by the Tasmanian Nurses and Midwives Award will not be considered at this time.

Applications will only be considered from current Tasmanian Health Service staff who meet all of the following criteria, in line with the Tasmanian Nurses and Midwives Award and the Transition to Practice policy:

You are currently employed by the Tasmanian Health Service in ongoing employment (12 months or greater) as one of the following:

  • Assistant in Nursing (AIN)
  • Registered Undergraduate Student of Nursing (RUSON)
  • Enrolled Nurse (EN)

and you are covered by the Tasmanian Nurses and Midwives Award.

  • You have less than six (6) months’ experience as a Registered Nurse (calculated from the date of initial RN registration).
  • It has been less than two (2) years since completion of your Registered Nurse qualification for registration.
  • You will have obtained initial registration as a Registered Nurse with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia (NMBA) by the nominated commencement date.

The Role:

The Registered Nurse - Transition to Practice is responsible for the planning, implementation, and evaluation of safe, clinically appropriate nursing care in collaboration with patients/clients, their families and the multidisciplinary health care team to achieve goals and health outcomes.
  • Works within the Nursing and Midwifery Board (NMBA) standards for practice and a Transition to Practice framework to embed clinical and professional competencies, in a supported and development-focussed context of clinical practice.
  • Is individually accountable for clinical knowledge, further education and working within the scope of practice determined by their experience and skills.
  • Delivers quality and compassionate person-centred care that ensures the wellbeing, safety, values and clinical care needs of the patient/client are met.

Details of Appointment:

Multiple fixed term, full time/part time, day worker or shift worker positions, working up to 76 hours per fortnight, commencing from July and August 2026 for approximately twelve (12) months.

Please note that hours may be negotiated with the successful applicant

Classification: Registered Nurse Grade 3, Year 1 - Year 3

Salary: $80,524 - $86,715 per annum (pro rata) + 12% superannuation + access to salary packaging

  • Salary range is in accordance with Nurses and Midwives (Tasmanian Stat Service) Agreement 2023

Eligibility:

Successful applicants will be required to meet the essential criteria:

  • Registered with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia as a Registered Nurse.
  • Current Driver’s Licence (Community Nurse positions only)
  • Current Working with Children Registration (where applicable and as determined by individual position requirements)
  • Registration to Work with Vulnerable People (where applicable and as determined by individual position requirements)

In line with the requirements of the Transition to Practice Program:

  • Less than six months experience (since date of initial registration) as a registered nurse
  • Less than two years since completion of Registered Nurse qualifications for registration

Under particular circumstances employees may be required to undertake a new conviction check.
