The Nursing Role
Nurses at the Roy Fagan Centre are at the heart of our care model, supporting older persons with complex mental health needs, neuropsychiatric symptoms of dementia, and other age-related conditions. Our nursing team works within a multidisciplinary framework to deliver compassionate, person-centred care that prioritises dignity, safety, and emotional wellbeing.
Registered Nurses:

- Engage in therapeutic communication, biopsychosocial assessments, and collaborative care planning
- Participate in clinical education, quality improvement, and leadership activities
- Are supported to progress to Grade 4 through formal capability assessment, recognising advanced practice and leadership
Our nursing workforce operates on a 12-hour shift pattern, with full-time staff typically working two days on, two days off. This model promotes continuity of care, team cohesion, and work-life balance.
At RFC, we are committed to career progression and succession planning. Nurses are supported through structured supervision, mentoring, and access to professional development opportunities tailored to their interests and goals. We actively encourage leadership development and provide clear pathways for advancement within the Tasmanian Health Service.
Through initiatives like the My Home Life program, we foster a culture of kindness, positive communication, and relational care—ensuring that both staff and consumers feel valued, respected, and empowered.
