Thiess is proud to be expanding their operations at Mount Arthur South following the award of a 6-year contract. As part of this exciting growth, we are building a high-performing maintenance team and are seeking a skilled Maintenance Equipment Inspector – Boilermaker to help drive structural integrity and reliability across our fleet.
About the role
This is a proactive, field-based role ideal for a trade-qualified Boilermaker who is passionate about structural health, defect prevention, and setting frontline teams up for success.
As a Maintenance Equipment Inspector, you will act as the critical link between planning and execution—applying your fabrication knowledge to identify early-stage structural defects, enhance inspection quality, and ensure repair scopes are efficient, safe, and cost-effective.
Reporting to the Field Maintenance Superintendent, your key responsibilities will include:
· Conducting daily inspections of Liebherr R9800, R9600, R996/R996B, R9400, R9350 excavators and CAT MD6250/MD6310 drills
· Identifying and documenting structural defects, fatigue cracking, and bucket wear/GET conditions
· Providing clear, photo-supported defect reports and escalating concerns appropriately
· Collaborating with planners to ensure accurate labour allocation, parts procurement, and repair scheduling
· Supporting the planning team in scope creation and sourcing of structural parts
· Working closely with supervisors to ensure planned maintenance is executed efficiently
· Organising time-critical parts and transport where needed
· Driving continuous improvement in structural reliability, repair quality, and inspection standards
· Maintaining a forward-looking maintenance log for upcoming fabrication work
· Championing a strong safety-first and defect management culture across the team
This role plays a key part in minimising unplanned downtime, improving asset health, and enhancing the structural performance of our fleet.
What You'll Bring
· Trade qualification in Boilermaking/Fabrication
· Proven experience in heavy mobile equipment (HME) structural maintenance, particularly in mining environments
· Strong hands-on skills in field repairs, bucket/GET maintenance, and heavy fabrication
· Proficient in non-destructive visual inspections (VT), with high attention to detail in fatigue and crack identification
· A proactive approach and strong communication skills to influence planning outcomes
· Comfortable using digital maintenance systems
· Current Australian manual driver’s licence (HR licence desirable)
· High Risk Work Licences (desirable): EWP, Forklift, Working at Heights
