What you’ll do:
Thiess is currently seeking an experienced and proactive Travel Officer to join our Australia East – Mining Operations division, based at our Head Office in Brisbane. Reporting to the Head of Finance, the successful candidate will provide administrative support while managing all travel, accommodation, and transport logistics across multiple mine sites.
This role is vital to ensuring the seamless mobilisation and demobilisation of our site-based personnel and the efficient use of company resources.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage end-to-end travel and accommodation logistics for all personnel across three project sites (Peak Downs Mine, Lake Vermont, and Caval Ridge).
- Coordinate charter and commercial flights, ground transport, and accommodation bookings.
- Monitor and report no-show rates and travel compliance, implementing cost-efficiency strategies.
- Act as the primary contact for travel disruptions and liaise with internal and external stakeholders.
- Maintain travel manifests, prepare reports (e.g., Aerlink, Alliance, accommodation wastage), and identify process improvements.
- Collaborate with BMA to utilise TSV segment flights for FIFO workforce.
- Ensure compliance with travel policies including the "3-strike no-show" rule.
- Work closely with Finance, HR, Project Managers, and Site Leadership to align travel operations with workforce planning.
- Use systems including Serko, SAMS Workflow, Uplift, JOTForm, Microsoft Office Suite, and Office 365 to manage data, generate reports, and maintain accurate records.
Your Impact
You’ll be instrumental in delivering:
- Accurate and competitive asset rates for tenders and ongoing projects.
- Financial analysis that informs asset strategies and commercial decisions.
- Continuous improvement in estimating tools and cost modelling practices.
- Collaboration across a wide range of internal stakeholders (Operations, Fleet, Technical Services, Finance) and external partners (OEMs, suppliers, logistics providers).
A bit about you:
To be successful in this role, the candidate must hold at minimum a Year 12 Certificate, with a Certificate in Business Administration or a related field being highly desirable. Applicants should have at least 2 years of experience in a high-volume administrative or travel coordination role, demonstrating strong communication and interpersonal skills, with a clear customer service focus. Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Outlook, and Office 365 is essential, along with the ability to manage competing priorities, maintain strong attention to detail, and apply proactive problem-solving skills. Experience supporting operations across multiple sites and working with geographically dispersed teams is also required.
Essential Requirements:
- Year 12 Certificate (mandatory); Certificate in Business Administration or related field (desirable)
- Minimum 2 years’ experience in high-volume administration or travel coordination
- Excellent communication and customer service skills
- Strong skills in Microsoft Excel, Outlook, and Office 365
- Ability to multitask, prioritise workload, and maintain attention to detail
- Experience working with dispersed teams across multiple locations
Desirable Skills:
- Exposure to mining, construction, or similar project-based environments
- Familiarity with travel and logistics systems such as Serko, SAMS Workflow, and Uplift
- Experience managing FIFO/BIBO rosters and workforce mobilisation logistics
