What you’ll do

The Purchasing Officer will play a pivotal role in ensuring the seamless procurement of materials, equipment, and services for the business. This position focuses on delivering value to internal stakeholders through cost-efficient purchasing practices, process improvements, and strong supplier relationships.

Key Responsibilities

  • Customer Support: Liaise with internal stakeholders to process purchasing requests, provide updates on pricing and availability, and ensure their satisfaction.
  • Procurement Activities: Source, evaluate, and purchase materials and services while adhering to compliance and cost-efficiency targets.
  • Record Management: Maintain accurate purchasing records and resolve any invoicing issues in partnership with Accounts Payable.
  • Supplier Relationships: Engage with suppliers to negotiate favourable terms, ensure contract compliance, and expedite deliveries as needed.
  • Process Optimisation: Contribute to continuous improvement by identifying opportunities to enhance procurement workflows.
  • Safety: Promote a safe and environmentally responsible workplace culture in line with Thiess standards.

What You’ll Need to Succeed

We are looking for a motivated team member with the following skills and qualifications:

  • Formal Education: Tertiary qualification relevant to procurement, supply chain, or a related field. (preferred but not essential)
  • Experience: 2–5 years of purchasing experience, ideally within heavy industry sectors (e.g., mining, construction).
  • Technical Proficiency: Familiarity with ERP systems, particularly JD Edwards (JDE).
  • Key Strengths: Strong interpersonal skills, attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a dynamic environment.
