About the role:

Thiess are seeking a Senior Mining Engineer to join the Technical Services team.  Based out of our West Perth office, we are seeking a highly motivated and experienced person to support our operational sites and head office technical teams. In this pivotal role, you will provide strategic mine engineering services, mentor and support onsite teams and drive best practices that enhance our project performance and client outcomes.

Duties include but are not limited to: 

  • Participation in development of mine design and scheduling process documents and seek feedback/review through mine planning COP.
  • Preparation of data for reviews of all critical mine engineering inputs and reconcile actual vs planned performance.
  • Assisting management with the scoping of deliverables, timelines and required resources for all allocated projects/ mine plan activities
  • Participation in regular meetings to address ongoing mine planning methodologies, software tools and strategies
  • Development annual Life of Contract Schedules and Haulage plans as well as Rolling monthly 12mth plans as agreed with operational management.
  • Identify project risks from a technical, HSE and cost perspective during the mine planning phase to ensure their potential impact on the project are identified, documented and communicated.

About You

  • Tertiary qualified in a relevant technical discipline (e.g. Mining or Civil Engineering)
  • Minimum 5 years’ post-graduate experience in a broad range of Mine Engineering
  • In depth knowledge of mine planning, geology, GIS, Drill & Blast, mining principals and other related mining support services
  • Well-developed analytical, verbal and written communication skills
  • Good time management skills with the ability to meet tight deadlines and shifting priorities
  • Prior experience in guiding and mentoring engineers will be highly regarded
  • Strong mining software experience (Vulcan, Alastri, Spry, etc) as well as the Microsoft office suite.
  • Ability to undertake regular visits to projects and engagement with project technical staff
