About The Role

Our Lake Vermont Project, located 19 km outside Dysart in Central Queensland, is currently seeking an experienced Environmental Superintendent to join our collaborative Technical Services team on an 5/2/4/3 roster (9day fortnight). This is one of Thiess’ largest and longest‑running projects.

This role provides environmental leadership across the site, ensuring compliance with statutory, licence and contractual requirements while supporting safe, efficient and responsible mining operations.

Reporting into the site Technical Services Manager, you will work closely with the Project Management Team, Mine Operations and external stakeholders to manage environmental risk, monitoring, rehabilitation and community engagement.

About the role

As Environmental Superintendent, you will be responsible for the effective implementation and ongoing management of environmental systems, approvals and performance at site.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Lead all environmental monitoring programs, ensuring results are reviewed, reported and acted on in a timely manner
  • Ensure compliance with licence, consent and contractual conditions, including mine operations plan requirements
  • Provide practical environmental advice to site and project teams and implement actions to address non-conformances
  • Prepare and submit statutory and internal reporting to meet Thiess, Client and Regulator requirements
  • Manage environmental inspections and audits, ensuring findings and actions are documented, communicated and closed out
  • Develop, implement and maintain environmental management plans, procedures and work instructions
  • Lead rehabilitation strategy development, annual planning and progress tracking against approved plans
  • Work closely with the Project Management Team to ensure rehabilitation is completed in line with approved schedules
  • Manage environmental aspects of subcontractor performance and site activities
  • Identify and manage potential environmental and community impacts during planning and execution of works
  • Support community and stakeholder engagement, providing regular updates on issues, risks and opportunities to site leadership
  • Coordinate energy efficiency and related environmental reporting

About you

You are a confident environmental professional with strong site presence, capable of influencing operational teams and managing regulatory requirements in a mining environment.

You will bring:

  • A degree in Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering or a related discipline
  • A minimum of five years’ experience in environmental management roles
  • At least three years’ experience developing and implementing environmental management systems in a heavy industry environment, ideally mining
  • Strong working knowledge of Queensland environmental legislation and its practical application on a mine site
  • Solid understanding of mining processes and environmental aspects and impacts
  • Well-developed communication, relationship management and negotiation skills, including experience working with regulators, community groups and clients
  • Experience working in environments that interact closely with local communities (desirable)
  • Experience with environmental monitoring and HSEC systems and standards (desirable)
