The Opportunity

Thiess is seeking an experienced Technical Services Superintendent to join our project in the Bowen Basin.

This is a key leadership role responsible for delivering safe, efficient and commercially sound mine planning and engineering outcomes, while driving performance across a high-performing technical team.

Working a 5/2/4/3 roster and reporting to the Technical Services Manager, your duties will include:

  • Coach and develop all Technical Services team members through mentoring and regular feedback
  • Guide mine planning, design, scheduling and reporting activities
  • Enable operational and financial performance through effective planning and optimisation
  • Embed compliance with safety, environmental and statutory requirements through role modelling
  • Manage short to medium-term planning including rolling schedules and reporting
  • Provide technical input into production targets, cost forecasting and contract delivery
  • Build strong relationships and coach the team to influence effectively with site leadership, client reps and key stakeholders

About you

  • Degree in Mining Engineering, Civil Engineering or Surveying
  • Strong experience in open cut coal operations
  • Proven experience coaching and developing technical professionals in an operational environment
  • Solid background in mine planning, design and scheduling
  • Experience using Spry, Deswik, Vulcan or similar mine planning software
  • Sound understanding of Queensland mining regulations and safety systems
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to influence across site
