UNIQUE ROLE REQUIREMENTS
- Leads a geographically dispersed team across Australia, India and Indonesia, requiring strong remote leadership, coordination and cross-cultural engagement.
- Accountable for network engineering outcomes across enterprise IT, site operational networks and autonomy / OT in-pit networks.
- Operates in a mining environment where network availability is critical production and autonomous operations.
- Requires the ability to balance strategic planning, technical governance and hands-on operational leadership.
- Provides technical leadership across key network platforms including Palo Alto, Cisco, Juniper and Cambium.
- Works closely with site operations, ICT teams, vendors and project stakeholders to deliver standardised and fit-for-purpose network solutions.
- Required to travel to mine sites and support after-hours escalation, incident response and major change activities.
- Ensures network services and designs align with Thiess safety, operational, cybersecurity and business continuity requirements
KEY RESULT AREAS
Network Operations and Service Reliability: Ensure the stable, secure and efficient operation of Thiess’ global WAN, site networks and autonomy / OT in-pit networks.
Leadership and Team Management: Lead, Develop and coordinate a high-performing global network engineering team across multiple regions.
Network Strategy and Architecture: Drive network strategy, standards and roadmaps that support business growth, operational resilience and mining technology requirements.
Operational Technology and Autonomy: Support Ensure network services effectively support mining operations, fleet systems and autonomy-related technologies in site and in-pit environments.
Cybersecurity and Risk Management: Maintain secure network environments through strong governance, standardisation, risk management and alignment with cybersecurity requirements.
Stakeholder and Vendor Management:Build effective relationships with operational stakeholders, ICT teams, vendors and service providers to deliver fit-for-purpose outcomes.
Work Experience
- Extensive experience in network engineering and operations, including leadership of complex enterprise and site-based network environments
- Demonstrated success technical teams. Proven experience managing global WAN, site communications and high-availability network infrastructure.
- Experience supporting OT, industrial or autonomy networks in mining, resources or similar operational environments.
- Strong background in network security, service reliability, major incident management and operational risk control.
- Experience in technical governance, standardisation, vendor management and delivery of network improvement initiatives.
Technical Skills
- Advanced enterprise network engineering skills across WAN, LAN, wireless, routing, switching and security.
- Strong hands-on knowledge of Palo Alto, Cisco, Juniper and Cambium technologies.
- Experience in secure, resilient and highly available network design and operations.
- Strong capability in firewall management, network segmentation and secure access solutions.
- Experience supporting OT, industrial and autonomy network environments. Proficient in network monitoring, troubleshooting and incident response.
- Ability to produce technical standards, architecture guidance and network documentation.
- Sound understanding of cybersecurity, service continuity and operational risk management.
