The Opportunity

Are you a safety-driven and influential professional with a passion for creating safer workplaces in mining? Thiess is seeking an experienced and motivated Health and Safety Advisor to join our high-performing team at Peak Downs, QLD.

As a key member of the Peak Downs team, you’ll play a critical role in supporting safe, compliant and high-performing operations while driving continuous improvement in site health and safety systems and culture.

Roster: 8:6 (day shift) | Location: Peak Downs, QLD | Employment Type: Full-time

 

As the Health and Safety Advisor, you will:

  • Support the implementation and continuous improvement of the site SHMS and safety programs
  • Build positive relationships with frontline teams, supervisors and leaders through regular field engagement and practical support.
  • Conduct site inspections, audits and hazard identification activities to ensure safe systems of work
  • Provide coaching and mentoring to Supervisors and frontline leaders to strengthen safety capability and field leadership
  • Lead or support incident investigations, ensuring root cause analysis and effective corrective actions
  • Deliver training, toolbox and safety campaigns talks to promote safety awareness across the workforce
  • Discover and implement innovative ways to improve the site overall approach to ensuring critical controls are applied effectively and consistently.
  • Support injury management, rehabilitation and return to work processes [
  • Ensure compliance with legislation, Thiess standards, and client requirements (BMA)
  • Monitor and maintain incident management systems and reporting requirements
  • Build strong relationships across site to drive a proactive safety culture and zero-harm outcomes

 

About you

  • Tertiary qualification in Health & Safety (or relevant field)
  • Experience in an HSET Advisor role, ideally within mining or heavy industry
  • Strong knowledge of QLD Coal Mining Safety & Health legislation and
  • Experience in injury management and return to work coordination
  • ICAM Investigation experience
  • Demonstrated experience in incident investigation, risk management and auditing
  • Standard 11
  • G1, G8, G9 (Formally S123) and G2
  • The ability to populate and facilitate risk assessments
  • Strong computer literacy and the ability to manage reporting, records and action tracking requirements.
  • Ability to communicate across all levels
  • Hands-on approach, leading by example
  • Proven ability to coach, influence and engage frontline leaders to improve safety behaviours
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to deliver training and build relationships at all levels
  • A genuine commitment to safety leadership and Thiess’ Zero Harm vision
  • Experience with systems such as SOLV, Intelex or similar safety platforms (desirable)
