The Opportunity
We are seeking a Mining Manager to lead production delivery across the operation, with accountability for overseeing mining activities and optimising drill and blast performance at Pembroke Resources’ Bowen Basin project, the Olive Downs Complex.
This autonomous project, located 40 kilometres southwest of Moranbah, began operations in early 2023. Thiess has secured a five-year contract to deliver comprehensive mining services, including mine planning, overburden removal, drill and blast, load and haul (autonomous & manned), water management, rehabilitation, and infrastructure construction.
As Mining Manager at Olive Downs, you will lead the project mining department and sub-contractors to achieve production, safety, and cost targets through efficient utilization and care of plant and personnel. You will draw from your well-developed technical and leadership skills to coach and mentor Mining Superintendents and Supervisors build team effectiveness and project performance.
The primary focus of the role is to lead our mining operations teams while championing accountability and integrity by:
- Building and mentoring a strong, collaborative team aligned with Thiess and project objectives
- Safely maximising production and trucking efficiency by embedding correct operating procedures
- Drive a High Performance Culture, and create a positive working environment for employees to Speak Up
- Work collaboratively with site leadership to ensure mine plans and schedules reflect high but achievable targets
- Maintaining a strong focus on budget and production financials, driving cost efficiencies where possible
- Driving continuous improvement by taking an innovative approach to problem solving and embracing technology
- Managing contractual obligations consistently while fostering positive relationships with our client
About you
We are seeking a driven individual with a focus on building a solid, collaborative and high-performing culture within your team. You will have extensive experience in open cut coal mining with a drive to deliver results.
Additionally, you will:
- Have previous experience in a similar role with proven success working as a Mining Manager
- Highly developed communication and cost management skills combined with a strong commitment to health, safety and the environment
- Advanced leadership skills, financial acumen with a great awareness of contractual obligations
- Technical services and engineering experience is highly desirable
