What you’ll do

Reporting to the Principal Estimator, you will play a key role in preparing competitive and accurate tender submissions while providing valuable commercial and technical insights to support business growth.

Key responsibilities

  • Lead the development of detailed cost estimates and tender submissions for mining projects.
  • Work closely with mine planning engineers to optimise mine plans for tender opportunities.
  • Analyse direct costs, overheads, production data, and site performance to inform tender pricing.
  • Support project budgeting activities and identify opportunities to improve operational cost effectiveness.
  • Apply commercial and contractual knowledge to ensure estimates align with project requirements.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders across engineering, finance, legal, operations, and project teams.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives and support knowledge sharing across the estimating team.
  • Champion Thiess' commitment to safety, sustainability, and operational excellence.

What you’ll bring

You'll be a commercially minded mining professional who combines strong technical expertise with exceptional analytical and stakeholder engagement skills.

  • Relevant tertiary qualifications in Mining Engineering, Civil Engineering, Surveying, or a related discipline.
  • 8+ years' experience within a mining engineering environment.
  • Experience working on large-scale open-cut and/or underground mining operations.
  • Strong mine design, planning, and scheduling experience.
  • Demonstrated experience developing mining tenders and cost estimates.
  • Knowledge of mining principles, operations, and relevant regulatory requirements.
  • High proficiency with mine planning, design, scheduling, and estimating systems, including CATS.
  • Advanced analytical skills with the ability to connect technical outcomes to commercial performance.
  • Strong communication and stakeholder management capabilities.
