About the role

Based in South Brisbane, Thiess has an exciting opportunity for a Health & Wellbeing Advisor to join the head office team on a twelve month fixed term maternity leave contract.

Reporting to the Health & Wellbeing Principal, you will be required to support the implementation of Thiess’ occupational health strategy, including a focus on health and hygiene risks. Your responsibilities will also include implementing and monitoring the pre-employment medical process as well as supporting administrative processes and projects for the health team.

Other key aspects of this role will see you:

  • Interpret medical assessments and provide risk-based advice to the business
  • Manage fitness for work cases for non-work-related matters
  • Supporting the Principal in the strategy to ensure a culture where occupational health is given equal priority to safety
  • Implement injury and illness prevention strategies, and monitor the achievement and maintenance of positive physical, mental and social health parameters
  • Embrace the use of systems and lead data entry activities
  • Provide occupational health guidance to leadership and occupation health and safety teams across Thiess
  • Ensure occupational health is included in tenders and risks are identified, assessed and managed prior to project commencement
  • Provide guidance to the development of occupational health and hygiene management plans that comply with the overall occupational health strategy
  • Provide guidance and support to implement hygiene monitoring and reporting programs
  • Assist in implementing a global occupational health management system that is integrated with the health and wellbeing framework
  • Act as the first point of contact for project leadership and health and safety teams
  • Provide support to ensure a successful partnership with our Employee Assistance Program (EAP) provider
  • Implement evidence-based fitness for work protocols and projects.

About you

To be successful in this role you will have:

  • Formal qualifications in allied health (Occupational Therapy, Physiotherapy or similar) or occupational health management
  • A minimum of five years’ experience in an occupational health role
  • A minimum of five years’ medical case management experience
  • Five years of experience in operational mining is preferred, ideally at project and corporate level
  • Experience with auditing, OHS systems and risk management
  • Strong influencing, verbal and written communication skills
  • Intermediate to advanced skills in Microsoft Word and Excel
