About The Role

Thiess is seeking a Senior Payroll Officer and play a pivotal role in ensuring the timely, accurate, and efficient processing of salaried, monthly paid payrolls. In this essential position, you will ensure compliance with Award, EA, and legislative requirements. As a Payroll Subject Matter Expert (SME), you will tackle complex payroll queries, identify opportunities for process improvement, and provide coaching and mentorship to colleagues. Additionally, you will contribute to key projects and transformation activities, driving excellence and innovation within our payroll function.

 

Additionally, you will: 

  • Ensure the timely and accurate processing of monthly payroll, including off-cycle payments, and maintain employee records in accordance with HR/IR instructions. Operate as a Super User in Oracle and Preceda systems to facilitate payroll operations.
  • Provide timely resolution of payroll-related queries from HR, line managers, and employees, ensuring clear communication and efficient problem-solving.
  • Understand and administer salaried employment contracts, maintain up-to-date knowledge of payroll legislation, and support business-as-usual compliance activities as needed.
  • Create detailed process maps and work instructions for the salaried payroll function, ensuring consistent induction and training for new starters. Identify opportunities for improvement and support the implementation of changes.
  • Support and coordinate team efforts to deliver results and improvements, effectively managing issues, conflicts, and problems while fostering a culture of continuous improvement through regular coaching.

 

About You

Additionally you have:

  • Demonstrated experience in processing payroll and managing complex payroll issues.
  • Demonstrated experience in interpreting and applying provisions of Enterprise Agreements and Awards
  • Experience with Payroll systems such as Oracle HRIS and/or Preceda is desirable
  • High level computer proficiency including intermediate MS Excel skills 
  • 2 to 5 years Payroll processing experience.
  • HR or other related qualifications desirable.
  • Mining industry experience highly valued.
