What you’ll do:

As a Senior Specialist – Estimating (Assets), you will play a key role in supporting a wide range of business functions through the development of accurate asset cost estimates and continued asset lifecycle analysis for our global fleet of assets, whilst challenging current practices and continually looking for ways to improve Thiess performance. Reporting to the Group Manager Assets Estimating/Fleet, you’ll ensure Thiess asset costs and asset strategies are aligned to support ongoing sustainable asset performance, project outcomes and business growth.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and review plant and maintenance operating cost estimates for use in tendering.
  • Analyse & present asset cost & performance data to support effective business decision making.
  • Review plant rates for existing Thiess projects to achieve budgeted outcomes.
  • Analyse project fleet cost performance and benchmark against tendered estimates.
  • Develop semi-annual maintenance budgets for Thiess projects ensuring that all operations have suitable maintenance budgets which will ensure asset performance as well as safe & efficient operations for the relevant periods.
  • Conduct asset lifecycle reviews considering capital, cost, component cycles, and asset life extension requirements.
  • Provide analysis for use in fleet selection in order to implement optimised asset solutions for new and existing projects.
  • Develop & review workshop infrastructure, tooling, and support equipment requirements to ensure new & existing projects provide our people with suitable & safe working environments.
  • Support asset management processes & reporting (asset setup, asset movement, capitalisations, End-of-Month Reports)
  • Understand opportunities to challenge and innovate the way in which we build tenders and identify solutions. 

Your Impact

You’ll be instrumental in delivering:

  • Accurate and competitive asset rates for new work in varying commodities and geographies and existing projects.
  • Financial analysis that will inform asset strategic and commercial decisions.
  • Continuous improvement & development of estimating tools and cost modelling practices.
  • Collaboration across a wide range of internal stakeholders (Operations, Fleet, Technical Services, Finance) and external partners (OEMs, suppliers, logistics providers).

A bit about you:

We’re looking for a motivated and detail-oriented professional with a trade qualification or a degree in Engineering, Business, or a related discipline. You will ideally have 3-5 years of experience in an operational or estimating role within the mining or heavy industry sectors. A strong understanding of asset management principles is essential, along with a demonstrated ability to apply this understanding in a practical and commercial context.

Technical proficiency in the Microsoft Office Suite is required, particularly in Excel, with experience in macros or VBA considered a valuable asset. The successful candidate will be capable of working independently, while also building strong relationships and effectively influencing a wide range of internal and external stakeholders. A proactive approach to problem-solving and continuous improvement will be key to succeeding in this role.
