About the role

Thiess is currently recruiting a Site Engineer for our exciting new Eva Copper Mine Project, located on the traditional lands of the Kalkadoon People, 75 kilometres north of Cloncurry and 95 kilometres north-east of Mount Isa.

This role is being offered as a max-term contract through to October 2027, providing a great opportunity to be part of an exciting new project!

We strongly encourage locals in Northwest Queensland, including members of the Kalkadoon community and other First Nations people, to apply for this role on a BIBO basis. Depending on the successful candidate's location, the role can also be offered on a FIFO roster from either Townsville or Brisbane, with on-site accommodation provided.

Reporting to the Project Engineer, you will work collaboratively to deliver high-quality plans and designs for our civil works.

Key responsibilities in this role will include:

  • Design civil construction components for both permanent and temporary works.
  • Liaise with the Construction Manager to improve processes and clarify design requirements.
  • Ensure civil operations are executed efficiently and cost-effectively.
  • Perform duties as a Quality Management Representative.
  • Report daily progress, non-compliance issues, and work delays to the Construction Manager.
  • Conduct regular inspections of job sites to assess compliance and identify areas for improvement.
  • Actively monitor the work environment to identify and mitigate hazards.
  • Assist with quality and safety audits.
  • Implement technical and safety requirements for the project.
  • Oversee and monitor daily quality control procedures.
  • Track daily production and ensure adherence to cost and schedule targets.
  • Actively contribute to the continuous improvement and innovation of work practices.

 About you

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or equivalent.
  • 1–2 years of experience in civil construction projects, preferably in a mining environment.
  • A current, valid Australian driver’s licence.
  • Possession of a White Card.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including presentation abilities.
  • Excellent organisational and planning skills.
  • Proficient in the Microsoft Office suite, with intermediate to advanced skills.
