Associate Director, Construction Risk Management

As the Associate Director, Construction Risk Management, you will join the CRE Credit team that’s doubling down on providing technical expertise and innovative solutions to ensure best outcomes for our customers and the bank whilst proactively managing risk. Your technical expertise will be crucial in appointing quantity surveying and civil engineering firms, negotiating tripartite deeds, and ensuring all funding conditions are met. 

Risk assessment in Construction Funding is not concentrated on any one element of risk but is an exercise in lateral thinking to determine how to mitigate the identified highest risks in a project from the Bank's viewpoint. 

The Construction Risk function works closely with Quantity Surveyors, Civil Engineers, Relationship Managers, Client Management Execution teams, Commercial Real Estate Credit Colleagues and Strategic Business Services when managing construction risks for the bank.  

 

Each day, you’ll go above and beyond to:  

  • Work closely with Bankers and Credit colleagues to manage all aspects of construction risk. 

  • Undertake full construction review on projects, including contract and builder reviews.  

  • Review monthly project progress reports and approve all drawdowns and progressive funding on development and construction projects with $3m or more in construction contract sum.  

  • Verify that all conditions precedent to funding are included in the Bank's loan documentation.  

  • Ensure all conditions precedent have been met.  

  • Brief and appoint all Quantity Surveying or Civil Engineering firms to provide independent reporting.  

  • Determine when tripartite deeds are required, this can include relevant document negotiation.   

 

We’re looking for the best and brightest to deliver the best for our customers. You’ll need:  

  • Quantity Surveyor qualifications and/or experience is preferred.  

  • Proven experience of managing risk with demonstrated ability in making risk-based decisions associated with financial services will be highly regarded. 

  • Strong business acumen to navigate direct interactions with customers.  

  • Strong communication skills with the ability to convey complex ideas clearly and concisely.  

  • Outstanding technical and problem-solving skills.  

  • Strategic and customer focus mindset.
