Senior Legal Counsel, Employment Law– Melbourne CBD/Sydney CBD

As Senior Legal Counsel in the Employment Legal Team, you will lead or contribute to the delivery of strategic legal advice across all aspects of employment law. You will play a critical role in managing legal risk, supporting People & Culture and business leaders, and ensuring compliance with evolving workplace legislation and regulatory frameworks.

Each day, you’ll go above and beyond to

  • Provide expert legal advice on employment law matters including enterprise agreements, awards, contracts, workplace investigations, and terminations.
  • Monitor and interpret legislative and industrial relations developments, advising on implications for policy, practice, and risk.
  • Draft, review, and negotiate employment-related documentation, ensuring legal robustness and alignment with organisational values.
  • Partner with senior internal stakeholders across People & Culture, Risk, and Operations as well as external counsel and regulators to embed legal risk management into NAB’s workforce strategy.
  • Influence policy development and contribute to enterprise-wide decision-making on employment practices and compliance.
  • Lead or support responses to regulatory inquiries, disputes, and litigation involving employment matters.
  • Lead, coach, and develop legal professionals within the Employment Legal team.
  • Promote the strategic value of employment law across the organisation, translating legal complexity into clear, actionable guidance.
  • Manage relationships with external counsel and regulators, ensuring high-quality, cost-effective legal support

We’re looking for the best and brightest to deliver the best for our customers. You’ll need:

  • Deep knowledge of employment law, industrial relations, and workplace legislation
  • Proficiency in drafting and negotiating employment contracts, policies, and settlement agreements.
  • Proven ability to build trusted relationships with senior leaders, People & Culture, Risk, and external counsel.
  • Skilled in translating legal advice into clear, commercially relevant guidance.
  • Strong communication and presentation skills, tailored to diverse audiences
  • Familiarity with regulatory bodies and processes (e.g. Fair Work Commission, AHRC)
  • A collaborative mindset and commitment to ethical, people-centred legal practice.
