Associate Legal Services

Exciting opportunity for an Associate to join Legal Services at NAB. In this role, you will play an important part supporting the delivery of practical, high quality legal services to a variety of different stakeholders across the bank while working closely with lawyers and other internal teams.

As an Associate within Legal Services, you will support C&IB, B&PB and PB lawyers by responding to banker queries and providing clear, timely and practical guidance across a broad range of legal and transactional documentation matters.

Each day, you’ll go above and beyond to: 

  • Review lending and security-related documents in accordance with the approved work guides, templates and training materials developed by in-house or external lawyers 

  • Communicate the outcome of lending and security-related document reviews to bankers, in a simple, clear and timely way 

  • Assist Legal Services Officers and Associates in applying the work guides and related resources to complete more work types accurately and consistently 

  • Follow processes and guidance, and applying correct templates 

  • Communicate concisely and clearly with bankers 

  • Proactively work towards/actively maintain proficiency in all work types relevant to your role 

  • Maintaining files on matters for future reference and for the benefit of other stakeholders to Identify when assistance is required to ensure a response to SBS is provided in a timely manner.

  • To demonstrate strong written and verbal communication skills 

  • Strong and keen attention to detail when reviewing documents 

  • Effective time management skills with the ability to work well under pressure and meet tight deadlines 

  • Proficient administrative and organisational skills for managing various matters, correspondence and legal documents 

  • Strong teamwork and collaboration skills, especially when working across departments 

  • A flexible and adaptable approach to work, allowing for responsiveness to changing priorities 

  • General IT skills, particularly Microsoft Office, and the ability to adapt to different systems and software 

  • A broad range of interpersonal and relationships management skills to support and enable positive outcomes for NAB customers 

  • Familiarity with Legal Services paralegal functions and relevant NAB systems (e.g. Siebel, ServiceNow and iManage) 

  • Experience and an understanding of NAB’s risk appetite 

  • Customer focus and strategic mindset 

  • Bachelor level degree preferred but not essential
